It's time to be heard....submitted by a member
It is a sad day for New Bedford educators. Or should I say year? When we speak out about what we don't have we are considered to be whiners. When we don't speak out the mayor and his counterparts believe our morale is high? We are caught in a cycle and can't get out. How do we get ourselves heard and understood? We need to think about coming together as a whole. In unity there is strength. How much more will you take? We need to start attending school committee meetings. Not just a handful, but a high majority. We need to show the school committee that we are fed up with a lack of respect, lack of support, and lack of the tools necessary to do our jobs. Will you be there when the call for action comes through? We a union of over a thousand members. We are the union. Not just Lou. It is time to stand together. UNITE!!!

Save the date OCTOBER 21, 2013, for the next regular School Committee meeting 6 p.m. Keith Middle School, Community Room.
Let your voices be heard by signing up to speak at the Public Comment section. If enough of us do this, it will begin to have an impact. Who knows, perhaps Natalie Sherman will print things that are needed to prepare our students for the 21st Century. Not showing up and not speaking out during the comment period only shows the Mayor, School Committee members, and Superintendent that you are all talk, writing in this case, and no action. Put the ball right back in their court—lack of books, materials, outdated or broken computers, outdated software, etc.
Hope to see you there in full force. Remember Durkin has just hired three new administrator. She found money for those positions but not teachers.
agreed. we need to stand united
If you do not support Lou and the other members of your union - the School Committee, Mayor, and Pia will continue to treat you as they have been. Having participated in both strikes in the 70s I cannot emphasize HOW important it is to show that you are united for the same cause. I was at City Hall in June when the council wanted to slash another $4 million off the budget - the turnout was NOT good -if you want to be heard - then do something about it. Show up in large numbers at school committee meetings - and speak up. Don't just sit there - participate.
