Has common sense left the district? by Joanne Correia Marques

I am not sure how our new superintendent says everything is going well within our schools. Classes are over sized there are students sitting on the floor in classrooms and siting on the floor in the cafeteria as there isn't enough seats. Common sense would have been to close Gold house if they had to, but leave that cafeteria open! Morale is not up for teachers or students..I have spoken to teachers and students and they are discouraged.. I pray that they figure this out sooner than later. MCAS scores should not be the priority! class room sizes, safety, scheduling, the drop out rate and making sure our teachers have the right tools to teach our children are my priorities as a parent. And the Administration needs to listen to the parents as we know what is best for our children. This is just my opinion as a parent and I truly don't think that I am asking for a lot.

Isn't there a meeting you can have, or an assembly you can request you are taxpayers isn't that your right she must have a boss i'm thinking the mayor????? you know actions speak louder than words sometimes depends how you put them in to context just saying......

Parents and students, if you are as fed up as we are, you can assemble for a rally at City Hall as well as wecan! Regardless of what you read in the newspapers, these things that are reported on this blog are true!! Parents, speak to your children and hear the class sizes and the lack of seats and materials. I believe the Right to Assemble" is still in our Constitution!!!!!

Common sense has left the district and here is why. Look at the data on Subgroups as reported by DESE. They are the most fragile, and make up 80% of population You are scaring them away by removing all their supports.

Ask yourself this question. How is it that Superintendent Durkin found money to create three new positions but has no money to hire classroom teachers? I wonder if there is a money tree growing on the grounds of one of the schools in the district!!!

I am a parent of children in the Attleboro school district. While in Attleboro, all Dr. Durkin cared about is the MCAS scores and was known as a bully to both the teachers and parents. My daughter came home on the first day of school this year with a history book that was falling apart. I have no idea how some of the pages were intact. When I brought her book to a PTO meeting to show the principal and a school committee member, I was told the teachers had been asking for new books and our former superintendent refused to make it a priority. We had the same questions in terms of finding money for new positions but not the money for teachers and much needed school supplies. I can't believe she is already showing her true colors in your school district.
