The Standard Times is anti-teacher, anti-union, and above all anti Lou St John. by Nancy Smith

Yesterday's editorial in the S-T just proves once again that the editor is anti-teacher, anti-union, and above all anti Lou St John. How dare he say that Lou did the teachers no favors with the comments he made concerning teacher morale. Lou is doing his job - fighting to protect a the teachers and the contract that was signed by the Mayor and School Committee. If he does not fight for the teachers - who will? The situation in the school department is horrendous and I don't see how things are going to get any better with Pia Durkin at the helm. What a sad state our school department is in - I am thankful that I am no longer an employee of NBPS.

I do not understand why this area of the country downgrades teachers so badly. Where I am now, if scores are low, they ask the teachers what they need to bring scores up. Teachers are not dictated to. They are treated like professionals. Don't get it!

I don't understand it either. But I can say that it has always been his way. I think those who are not teachers do not have an understanding of how difficult the job is - they still believe that teachers get too much money for doing too little work. This school department spends its money on a top heavy administration - there are no boundaries, it seems, to the number of superintendents and directors they hire with astronomical salaries. Students and teachers are at the bottom of the food chain here in New Bedford.

Nancy, maybe they could get a bit more action with the Teamsters negotiating for them or at least backing them.

I think the entire school department is just a complete mess with the twin sister of Atilla the Hun running the show. At lunch (with my retired friends) there were numerous horror stories of how badly the staff if being treated.

I'm being told that my friend Phil Paleologis spent a good amount time bashing me on the radio yesterday.

Well said and I could not agree more. Those idiots in charge have short memories. Does the name Portia Bonner ring a bell? New Bedford is a great place. It will survive Dr. Pia as well. I retired in 2008. It looks like I got out just in time!

The School Committee doesn't do more than cursory vetting of top individuals and they should be ashamed. The S-T's power is dwindling and they are nothing more than a paper tiger.

It may be time to bring in the MTA and the NEA...we need more support before we are completely destroyed. Lou can't do this alone.

Are all middle schools holding students until 2:40 or is this just a Normandin privilege? Glad I transferred when I did.

the mayor and superindent and all her staff which i might say is deff like the sherriffs staff,of way to many assistants to assistants to assistants is where most of the schools budget goes its not going to the hard working teachers or paras who have been working without a contract for quite some time come on Dr.Pia Durkin go back to attleboro

Its obvious that not many of you are remotely happy with the new superintendent. That's crystal clear. How many of you are equally frustrated and upset with your principles and assistant principles? If they don't have your back then quite frankly no one will. They need to take ownership of their buildings and support their staffs and stop passing the buck to cover their own a**es

Lou, you should be proud of your enemies. Wear them like badges. And keep doing what you do.

I'm not upset with my principles--but I do question the leadership of my principal...Remember--the principal is your PAL...(well, they should be!)

The Enquirer is looking for writers-both the Standard Times and the Enquirer are rags that print fantasy!

Tell St. John and his ilk to call your lord and savior Obama for help, or your lord and savior Deval, or your lord and savior Barney...Ohh right he's gone now.
