Pacheco School: Without discipline, consequences, or the presence of aleader in the building, our school is crumbling before our eyes! ....Submitted by a member

Marcia Faucher and her staff worked for over a decade to help rebuild a falling school. After hard work, the staff & their dedicated leader brought an underperforming school to the top. But it is depressing to see that after only 6 short weeks of this school being under new leadership, the school is falling fast! Without discipline, consequences, or the presence of a leader in the building, our school is crumbling before our eyes! The vibe in the building and the level of chaos is indescribable . The principal is new to the NBPS system and is clearly not a fit for this building or population. She can never be found or available to deal with problems or concerns regarding the children. Something needs to be done before it's too late! We are losing control & feeling helpless!

I work at a Level 1 school under a new principal hired by Dr. Durkin. This woman came from the Sister's School with 60 girls she handpicked, to a building of 400 students. I've never seen a school fall apart so fast under her leadership as this one has. There is no discipline, no rules, no consequences for bad behavior, no follow up, and we can never find her in the building if we need her. We worked very hard in this building to become a Level 1 and it's sad to see what has happeneed in 5 weeks. Dr. Durkin needs to look into this mess and respond to our concerns.

Who chose the new principal at Pacheco? The entire selection co. should be exposed for their ineptitude.

And Pia wants us to raise the scores by 40%? Huh! Good luck Pacheco!!

The selection committee should be exposed and if this principal is as bad as they say she needs to be exposed and released!

Heard that the principal at Pacheco had the charter school and Alma del Mar in their school to observe teachers. Say it isn't so.... What's this woman's objective? Who invites the opposing team into the locker room???

I feel badly for the teachers at Pacheco. It is clear that the principal has NO CLUE as to what she is doing!!! We have strong teachers in the system that would make GREAT administrators but will never be given the opportunity because they don't know the right people. Hey NBPS if you want to there to be change....get your heads out of your ***!!

This principal had 60 girls in her previous school. She has one teacher alone in the cafeteria with 100 kids at lunch! What's wrong with this picture?

Guess its all in a days work: feed them, toilet them, teach them, discipline them, and when no one responds to you when your buzzing the office because a kid is choking, perform the Heimlich maneuver! Nice to have support when you need it. And yes, this did happen this year at Pacheco School.

Dr. Durkin's approach of bullying and alienating teachers is clearly not working. She needs to build a team with a common goal in order to create success. What ever happened to good old common sense?

Another Durkin mess.

How will Dr Durkin rationalize what's happening at Pacheco School? The staff is the same and the only thing that changed is the leadership.

How long will the school commitee ignore what's happening at Pacheco? My guess is that the school will be level 5 before Durkin, the school committee and Jon "the education mayor" Mitchell face reality.

The principal was using our prep time to have data meetings. It wasn't until Lou intervened that we got our prep time back.

How can you prepare children for the real world if there are no consequences? Asinine! That area is terrible to begin with-lousy parenting, crime. Durkin Is preparing these kids for jail!

I'll be curious to see how the rest of the"new" principals that Pia Durkin hired are going to do. Of course....she'll blame the teachers if the schools do not do well on MCAS.

She's such a phony!! She walked all over the projects this summer introducing herself to parents but that was only to look good for the public because now when parents come to school (with interpreters) she tells them she doesn't have time and sends them home!!!!

I visited Pacheco this week. What a mess.

Honestly, Many of the new Principals that have been hired within the last ten years have been absent. They were running out to meetings and when in the building not available. Pia isn't to blame for the entire mess that is in this district. Larry Finnerty will be reelected and his ideas are obsolete. Jack Norbrega will be back nodding off at the table. The Assistant of Superintendent will continue to put people in positions not by merit but by relationships and the beat will go on after Pia is gone. Frankly, I would love to have her home address so I could send her a letter exposing the poison that has prevailed in our system for a decade. Then she could read it confidentially and know exactly what rocks need to be turned over.

It's not the principals or the teachers it's the lack of resources and making regular ed teachers take special needs children in their classrooms without help and support and the behavior problems that are rampant throughout the system..thank PRAB for this mess..which finnerty was a major part of..

Spot on about "Dr." Finnerty. He has been there long enough to right the ship, unfortunately he is still claiming to know what's wrong as she sinks below the surface. His grandkids are on a waiting list for some elite private school by now.

It is the principals job to support the teacher in all aspects of school especially discipline and behavior. Without that support a teachers hands are tied. Building a culture of mutual respect and discipline starts with the leader. Good luck Pacheco. I feel for you!

You forget most principals only support their friends or the kiss a...es..

We had a wonderful learning environment under Marsha-Pia and this useless principal should take lessons from the expert! What a shame , that all the hard work we accomplished is falling apart because of inept leadership.

^^Someone who supposedly worked under Marsha, who can't spell Marsha's name. I think I see what's going on here.

Is the misspelling of Marcia's name really the issues? Just another way to avoid addressing a huge mess we're stuck with.

Maybe Pia will read this and visit the school and talk to the teachers. School climate is so important for student success. It's not too late! The district can't afford to lose one of its top schools to chaos!

It looks like Pia hired a dud to lead Pacheco School.

It's a good thing we have this blog to expose what's going on in New Bedford Public Schools. Without it, Pia and her band of misfits would be carrying on there reign of terror under the radar.

Maybe, just maybe there a reason why Attleboro non-renewed Pia's contract.

Charis Anderson should do a story exposing what's going on at Pacheco.

Charis is GONE! New education reporter on the beat.

I wonder if parents are aware that Pia's new push is to leave behind the "low" students and "top" students to focus on the "middlers". She figures you can get more bang for your buck with the middlers on their test scores. We are being expected to keep the middlers for tutoring instead of the low. I guess the low are too low and just leave them behind. This includes our sped population. The high are good but will not make that 40% increase that she is looking to hit. So let's not concentrate on getting them higher. No, just the middlers. We need to get the 40% and they are our only hope. Sorry to the parents of the low and high students. We really can't focus on them as much as we should. However, my goal as a teacher is to show growth with all my students!
