One principal left because he saw the writing on the wall. Another one from a level 1 school just left. New Bedford is going to be losing a lot of principals because of Pia Durkin.

She did the same thing in Attleboro. Parents complained about the turnover of principals...google it and you'll see.

^ the only principals left will be the rejects no one else wants

I know a lot of people will want to complain, and they deserve that opportunity. I just hope we can stay focused and make a plan that helps our schools move forward.

like her, the REJECT...

I know my middle school, which was nice and refreshing last year, has been made toxic this year, and it's all because the principal is just following orders from Durkin. No Confidence!!!

If we don't have the courage now, it will be too late. Dr. D has brainwashed the principals. She has directed them not to point the finger at her when delivering protocols to us. In public, Dr. D. appears sensible, direct, and focused on success. Unfortunately, her only focus is improved test scores by any means necessary. Wrong direction, wrong path, wrong leader for our district. We are a unique district, we do have unique challenges, and we have a strong need for alternative leadership. This superintendent has a single-minded focus, and an unhealthy one for staff and students living in highly stressful situations at home and now at school. TEST SCORES ALONE SHOULD NOT BE HOW WE JUDGE OUR DISTRICT.

All union members should attend to become exposed to all the issues that will be tabled. Knowledge as we know as educators is powerful.

Each and every member of NBEA should attend this meeting - show the superintendent and school committee that you have the courage to stand up and voice your concerns and do something about the horrendous situation in the New Bedford Public School System.

I'll be honest. I wanted this meeting on December 7th. From that day forward it could be called, "The night which will live in infamy!"

Durkin is cutting deals with DESE to get New Bedford schools labeled 4 and 5 so she can have total power to fire half the staff and keep the other half scared. A year of giant classes, assaults on teachers, disciplinary hearings for teachers...this is becoming a place where no one wants to work. Standing ovation to start for this monster, less than 3 months later she would now receive standing boos.

I think she wants a state takeover so she can populate the schools with all who will blindly follow her. She is dangerous. She underestimates us. We know and love these kids, and she is playing a game. It is time!

I agree that we should make sure that we use this time to create a constructive plan that will take action against the hostile work place NBPS has become. We are losing principals with great qualities to keep a new super who believes in the dictatorship rule of her staff while the students run wild and assault teachers and other students. The principals hide in their offices and only come out to do their observations. They are not active participants in the day to day running of their own buildings. We need to develop our own action plan and this meeting will show how united teachers really are! We all have very busy lives but this is one day that we need to stand together and be heard!! There are very few excuses for not being there. I have heard people say they are afraid to go because Pia might find out. Your darn right she will find out and you know what if 1200 teachers show up, she will be shaking in her heels. If 30 teachers show up, she will laugh at the unions and those 30 brave soles will become the target. You need to stand up and be counted. Let's keep it constructive, develop and action plan and reclaim our schools! Who is with us??????

My school is in. We are remaining united and will stand strong to put an end to this nonsense. Keep talking about this and get EVERYONE on board. This monster is destructive and wants a state takeover so she has complete control. That's some power trip she's on.

The mayor doesn't want to listen to us, the school committee doesn't support teachers, and the public blames us for everything. Now is the time to unite and fight back. Spread the word throughout your buildings: to show up and stand up!

Evil triumphs only when the righteous does nothing! Come on everyone, let's stand together!

How will the word of the meeting get out to all teachers? It is important that all members plan in advance to have the time available in their schedules to attend the meeting.

As we move forward and express the unfairness and bullying that is going on, We need to keep in mind what is important.....student success. We need to improve our school department but we deserve mutual respect !! Our students deserve an environment without hostility that is being caused by Pia. We need to maintain creditability. Lets acknowledge what needs to change and lets be reflective as we demand that we receive the support and the respect that we do deserve.

A question for all the schools. Is there a member from PRAB at all of your staff meetings too? Each of our staff meetings has included a person from PRAB who sits quietly and takes notes. They have never indicated why they are there and they try to blend into the crowd by sitting with the teachers. Obviously, we see them :)

Ask your principals what rating they received from Pia this week. The more needs improvements and unsatisfactories they are giving out the better the rating and the less they have to worry. She has begun their paper trails too.

We need to make sure that NBEA members that live more than 30 minutes away still show up as well. If you collect a paycheck from this city, you might want to support the group that supports you and your lifestyle. It saddens me to look around a gathering of our teachers absent of the out of town employees.

Exactly like the last person who commented, some of the people who live in the towns do not show up, that's because their children don't have to put up with this nonsense, but stop to think what if this were your child would you want this for them. Stressed teachers, teachers who are full of anxiety. Rigor, Rigor, Rigor, these poor kids are going to hate school !!!!! We need to stand together. United we stand, divided we fall !!!!!! I'm in !!!!!!!

I'm in too.......

I have always been willing to work hard and be effective, that has never changed. This is beyond that. This is terrorism. Our students deserve better than burned out, fearful teachers. It is time to take a stand for ourselves, our students, and our community. We need to transform our schools together with agreed upon timetables, methods, and strategies. It is urgent that we turn this around before she drives us all to level 5!

My school had Anne Bradshaw show up at our PD. Pia needs to send out her spies to see what we're doing even on this day? This woman is very insecure. These puppets she has running around doing her dirty work are stupid. They don't understand they are just as disposable as teachers?

Mitchell will never have the guts to stand up to Durkin and do what is right for our city. He has no integrity and Pia knows that.

Yeah let's stand together....and in the meantime show her how great we are! support each other....help each other ...share idea and materials...get your objectives up and align your lessons...get centers moving...don't give her anything to criticize and when she still does take it with a grain if salt, knowing that you are good despite her!!! She doesn't scare me because I'm good at what I do!! Let's go!!!!!!

The "motivator" that says. "just give her what she wants"...really does not understand the big problem. What she wants is not what the children deserve! If you are good at what you do, you also know what's good. The show and flow you describe is silly. We should not be forced to work in these confining ways...that is the problem--doing what we know to be sensible--or doing what she insists must be done. I don't think we are "great" when we are all doing the same thing. I think we have turned over our profession to the most destructive "reformers"...and Pia is one of them. If you worked for my principal you would no longer feel that you are good at what you do. Even with all the LOOK FORS you describe in place, you would still Need Improvement.

Dear NBEA members: As the old saying goes... "I don't have a dog in this fight...." BUT I do count Lou a friend (and others) so I'll leave this comment. It is time to put the "U" back in "UNION"! If ONE of you is being mistreated, abused or assaulted then you ALL are being mistreated, abused and assaulted! It is time to make THEM - and HER - fear YOU!!! You are going to make a statement on December 13. If you have anything less than the ENTIRE membership there, then you have forfeited your right to complain about anything. Were I not on the other side of the world, I would be happy to join you. "Zhu ni yi qie shun li,hao yun!" (Best wishes and good fortune!) Tom
