You've got to watch this video. Who does this person remind you of?
We are not afraid of change. I have been here through 6 supt with all of their "changes" . We have jumped through every hoop they put in front of us, we have taken every training they have impemented, we have taken on more and more beyond what our contract states. But when the kids know there is no consequence to their actions, they will do as they please. Mike Longo would have NEVER let this happen. Unlike Pia, we are invested in our school. Many of us are alumns and are dusgusted to watch it crumble before our eyes. And she can spout off that it is the Headmaster' s fault, but several people heard her screaming at admin behind closed doors, so WE know where the no discipline directive came from
I started have been through the following admin changes. Nanopolous, Silva, Marginsion (interim), Longo, Bonner, Francis, Shea and Durkin. They have come and gone. I am still here. Granted some retired and some came out of retirement but we have played far too long the Blame the Teacher Game!
Today, on WBSM, I heard the mayor say he was not qualified to be a teacher, and that is why he would not teach at NBHS for a day. Well, he's not qualified to be the mayor, but he does that every day.
Under the leadership of our HM,the state of high school has deteriorated. He lacks the administrative skills, knowledge, and courage to stand up for any of us. In fact, he hides. We can't count on him for any support. He is only worried about himself and how he will manage to stay intact to preserve his cushy suburban life. There were many things he could have done, but he didn't.
Sorry but we can't just blame the headmaster. He is a wonderful man and great guy. Probably the best #2 we ever had. I think he was beaten by superintendent #1 and never got over it. I can't imagine working as an administrator under this woman. Everyone is running scared or trying to endear themselves to her so they won't be out of work. He's the fall guy for what the superintendent is doing.
As far as the assaults, it's all in the way the discipline is reported into IPASS. Just because you write a conduct card doesn't mean that is what is put in the system.
What initiatives did this great HM establish to improve our school? What type of feedback did he offer after a walk through? What PD did he attend and what did he contribute? How is he protecting us? He is a wishy-washy man who chooses to avoid. Resting on his laurels for all this time has been damaging to say the least. Nice guys don't win the race. HE lacked the rigor and the achievement gap continued to widen. That is why we are a level 5 and suffering the consequences. Much of the blame falls on his shoulders.
When is the School Committee and Mayor going to be taking our school system back from the students? or will they make that move when someone gets killed or seriously injured?
Will responsibility ever be placed on parents and students themselves? At the high school we are not dealing with little children. We are dealing with young adults, at least we are supposed to be. We are dealing with people that have met standards in the other grades, at least we are supposed to be. We are preparing them for the real world, are we?

This is priceless!
We have tripled our efforts! We don't fear change, we fear violence. SAVE NEW BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL
OMG, it's P.i.A.
I have no confidence in Jon Mitchell.
No confidence in pia Durkin
Last year we were safe, this year we are not. What changed?

Trying to make this connection gives Darth Vader a bad name.

Pa Pa Pa Pia.

Just wondering when we became a level 5 school?
When is the School Committee and Mayor going to be taking our school system back from the students? or will they make that move when someone gets killed or seriously injured?
I believe the 3rd blogger from bottom up meant underperforming (level 4). but it's a damn good point.
Teachers in New Bedford are 93% proficient. We are as qualified as any other district in the state. What has been lacking is leadership.
