Lou, would you please tell the timid teachers this will not be a b*tch session? Some are using that message to scare teachers away from the meeting. It is very frustrating to listen to these type of comments/excuses for not attending.

This meeting is so important! EVERY member needs to make arrangements to attend. If we do not stand together, Dr. Durkin, Mayor Mitchell and the school committee will feel they can do whatever they want and we will complain, complain, complain but not DO anything about it. Do not let Dr. Durkin's "I like what I saw at your school today" comments fool you - she is not a fool and she thinks if she tells some staff members that "they" are doing a good job "they" will find no reason to attend. DO NOT LET HER KID YOU. Poor attendance at this meeting could also hurt our upcoming negotiations. NBEA MEMEBERS MUST STAND TOGETHER!

Timid teacher? I don't get that concept with the state of this district. I understand that these people exist, but I don't get it. We need to come together! We have issues! We can be successful in this district, but there is a lot of work to do. Change must occur and any teacher worth anything has to see that. The media wants to make us out to be SO resistant to change. We need change. Those not in attendance without a good reason, especially given the advanced notice, apparently think that change in this district is not necessary. Or that the change that has taken place is acceptable. Change was necessary well before this superintendent came along. Did anyone see this change coming? I mean the shear magnitude of change in the negative direction? The district is a mess and this could be a turning point! Do the right thing , show up. Be timid another day.

I think we should begin the meeting with a moment of silence for the Sandy Hook students and teachers. It would be fitting and a reminder of how selfless public school teachers really are.

We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.

For the educators that read this blog, it is empirical to convey to your peers their attendance on Friday. All eyes will be focused on attendance. The "timid" post was dead-on. If you're on the fence concerned of retaliation or any other negative outcome, it is time to "cowboy-up." Kevin Millar's quip help lead a team to a championship, and we can lead this district back to respectability.

New Bedford teachers are a team, and a darn good one. Lets show how much we care about our district, one another, and its students.

I look forward to saying the Pledge of Allegiance with all of you.

Above post...well said. I am worried that many teachers will allow the bullying to continue and will not show up. I hope I am wrong. There will be no greater message to this district that is on the brink than to have an overflowing parking lot. We ALL need to support one another here even if we are not going through some of the struggles that others are. Please, attend this meeting as a show of support for your fellow teachers. I, too, look forward the the Pledge of Allegiance with all of you!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 13th of December's meeting. We need to send a message loud and clear that we are strong. Perhaps some of you feel that nothing has happened to you or your school but that could all change in a heartbeat! Now is the time to STAND UNITED; it is you RIGHT!

This being the Holiday Season let each of us give the GIFT of SUPPORT to each other and to THANK Lou for all that he does for us.

I see that a MUTINY has been thwarted by the excellent writing in the Standard Times. Since the real problem with our schools has to be patronage, we should all understand how fortunate we are to have the best superintendent in the USA trying to show us how to teach correctly. By the way, she isn't hiring people she knew before, worked with before, or confided in before-right?

I agree, we owe a big THANK YOU to Lou for all his support and effort.

Thanks Lou! Together we will all prevail. After reading the article in the S-T rag today, it is hard to go to work tomorrow. But, we all know the students need us, despite the bullies wanting to blame this entire nightmare on Teachers...so we will all show up. Can't wait until Friday when I see the auditorium at NBHS packed!!!!! Stay strong!!

Durkin , Mitchell, and SC are hoping the numbers are small on Friday. If not, how will Mitchell keep saying the morale is "great"?
