Thank you for Friday's meeting ... Submitted by a member

To All Our Members,

Thank you for Friday's meeting. We need to act as a united front. The stress and apprehension I see each day in my colleagues faces is unacceptable. The school committee has let us down! The mayor has marched us in to the slaughterhouse and we need to make our voices heard!

We can NOT work effectively when fear keeps us up nights! We can NOT provide a nurturing learning environment for our children when we teach in fear of HOW we present our material,  WHO may walk into our classrooms, WHAT our performances may be evaluated as!

We all know great teaching comes from sensing the moment of interest and building upon it, not teaching for a set amount of time then BAM STOP and BAM START again. We have NOT received ANY training, materials, or support for the magical world of RIGOR, but we have received anxiety, stress, tears and illness in a giant Dish of Durkin Stew.

Sincerely,

An Elementary Teacher and Proud NBEA MEmber

Very well said, however, this might be too much for the powers to be to deal with. Are you saying you actually want to "teach" and be creative? The stress and anxiety are overwhelming. I teach at the middle school level and am seriously contemplating giving this gig up. There comes a point when health becomes more important than endless rigor. Best wishes.

Ten years at this now. Worked very hard to get professional license. Also contemplating giving this gig up. So friggin sad, thought I found what I was meant to do. This is nothing but abuse and this Durkin has not a clue!

I just want to let everyone know principals are lying on evaluations and making things up.

Many principals just plain s*ck in this district. They are WEAK and SELFISH. Speak up! Defend your staff! Protect the children from this rigor baloney. Give them the type of school day you would like for your own kids.

WE are the ones still taking this garbage. We need to stage a strike and let these fools worry about covering the classrooms.
