NBEA Statement: Let's set the record straight

New Bedford Educators Association Statement to our Members - January 4, 2014

The NBEA Leadership Team wishes to clarify statements attributed to New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell in today’s Standard-Times.

In the article New Bedford Teachers Get Support from Other UnionsMitchell said, "The door has always been open for union leadership to talk with the superintendent.  Dr. Durkin requested a regular meeting with the union president at the beginning of the school year. He (St. John) has yet to accept that invitation."

The Mayor’s statement could leave readers with the impression that there is no dialogue between the NBEA and the administration.  This is absolutely untrue.  We have met numerous times with Dr. Durkin and other members of the Central Administration to discuss our members' concerns.

Thanks for allowing us to set the record straight.

Just another misleading statement by the Mayor.

Is it my imagination or is the mayor's nose getting longer?

The mayor has been telling us lies since before he got elected. Why anyone would expect anything different from the man who calls himself the education mayor is beyond me. Let's all show him the door in 2016.

Very few people across our city have any respect for bozo the mayor.

We need to picket the mayor's fundraising events. Does anyone know when the next one will be?

The Mayor is having his inauguration at the Zeiterion on January 6th. It is free and open to the public. Hmm, how many educators do you think could fill the seats at this even :)

There is also a reception to follow on Johnny Cake Hill. Shall we attend? It is free and open to the public. I am a tax-payer and I am sure the city is picking up the tab for this event. Please join me. It will be fun.

I still want to know if Pia requested a set meeting each month and Lou said no. This does not clear that up.

Jon Mitchell is the great deceiver. When is he going to keep his promises about being tough on crime? I guess it's acceptable for students to beat up teachers in his law book.

Email from Lou St. John and Grievance rep Hancock from January 2nd was never received in school email. Must have been filtered out by admin. Found it in personal email account in Spam folder.

And allow so-called administrators to do the same to teachers among others. The jerk just doesn't care.

I think Lou answered the question and you are here to instigate trouble. we will not divide the union with statements that lack authenticity from the other side. Mitchell is a lawyer, he is used to lying and deceiving for a living. Keep that in mind. Let's all meet with Mitchell and Durkin at the inaugural ceremony. Fill that theatre with people who know he is a liar. Fill it up and at the reception, let us ask and corner him with questions. We can have our meeting there. who is in?

Wear NBHS gear to the Inauguration!

He was not even going to use local businesses for catering at his reception at the whaling museum

Noticed that the S-T announced Peter Muise as Man of the Year, another supporter of Durkin. Two Men of the Year, Dutra and Muise, supporter of Durkin. Guess that must be one of the requirements.

Did the ST just skip Teacher of the Year this year?

Speaking of Mayor Mitchell... from what I understand the City Charter allows for a recall election... I say we kick him out ahead of time!

Other than that... hope to see you all Monday night at inauguration and/or whaling museum function... in RED!

Hmmm...does it seem like it may be getting a little warm in here, Mayor???
Methinks he just may be feeling a little heat. Lets continue to pour it on!
