Wachusett Regional Education Association supports New Bedford Educators

11 January, 2014

Mr. Lou St. John
President
New Bedford Educators Association
160 William St.
New Bedford, MA 02740

Dear Lou,

We, the members of the Wachusett Regional Education Association, would like you and your
New Bedford colleagues to know that you do not stand alone against the recent radical and
unprecedented decision of Superintendent Durkin. By unanimous vote of our executive board,
we wish to offer you all of the support, assistance and help that we possibly can.

Every good educator inherently understands that the key to any successful school is a positive,
motivated staff backed by a supportive administration. This most recent draconian decision of
Superintendent Durkin inexplicably seeks to erode that foundation. Our members, like
thousands of other educators all over the commonwealth, are stunned that any school
administrator would propose such an educational unsound course of action as eliminating a large
percentage of the educators at one single school at one time.

Please know that there are more than five hundred Wachusett educators standing behind our New
Bedford sisters and brothers as they work to address this injustice. As public educators, our
strength is in our numbers and we want you and your colleagues to know that you can count on
us as allies and supporters as you weather this crisis.

In solidarity,

Bob Becker
President
