If veteran teachers are "fired" and then re-hired ... Do they have to accept a significant cut in pay to stay? So many unanswered questions ...

not to even slightly takeaway from what is happeing at the high school level. the elementary school teachers are continuing to work under administration that fires off "needs improvement" on the evaluations that are not substantiated. there is no "team interaction" from principal to teacher. the majority of our teachers go home with a dark cloud and sense of failure over our heads on a daily basis. at what point will the evaluations possibly lead to improvement plans and threat of losing our jobs. the principals come out of their office evaluate go back into their office and close door. no positive atudent interactions - i think this is their idea of being rigorous. the students even at the elementary levels can sense this friction as well. whom can we talk to- i dont dare talk to the superintendant as the mayor said we should do on the radio.

^your fear is what allows this nonsense to continue.

If I taught at the high school for more than 10 years, I would quit today. Pia does not want you. If you think the few words of weak praise she sprinkles around are about you-think again.

I left the system. Life is WAY too short. Wake up folks, get those resumes tweaked and sell yourself. Great Teachers here in New Bedford that can do far better somewhere else and be treated the way you deserve to be. New Bedford Public Schools is a joke...make the break. Quit living in fear

Did josh say he supported us to get himself elected?

Phil Palelogos spent countless hours this week criticizing New Bedford teachers.

Phil also said that most teachers got their jobs as a result of patronage.

^mr Shawmut Diner knows all about patronage and not paying his taxes. Why do you think he gives Mitchell tongue baths almost daily on his "radio" show.

The first post was interesting in addressing the rehiring and pay question. My question is: What will happen with the sick days?

Here are some things never mentioned for those who are not rehired:

What is the cost of unemployment the school department will have to payout?
Will the teachers lose their accumulated sick days, and how much the money will have to be paid out for accumulated sick leave?
Is there enough money appropriated in the school department's FY14 budget for these unforeseen expenses?
Will the school department have another deficit?

Where is Josh Amaral ? Haven't heard a word from him!!

Has anyone heard anything about who the high school new administrative 'dream team' will be?

Mitchell promised to be tough on crime but hasn't said word about it since he became mayor. Killings, robberies, and assaults are now common place in New Bedford. From what I can see, he's only tough on teachers.

Where is Josh? Is he hiding under a rock with the others? Disappointed!

Any teacher who buys the standard times is cutting their own throat.

Let's put that useless rag out of business by not buying from their advertisers. I've stopped taking my car to ralphs because he advertises with them.

We gave Josh our support and in return, he gave us silence.

VERY disappointed with Josh !!!

I think the school committee is under a gag order not to speak.

Hoodwinked by Josh? Did the good "Dr." Finnerty amaze him with everything he "knows"??? Who the heck keeps voting for Finnerty? Must be all the old ladies.
