To all those that were there last night! Thank you! It is greatly appreciated!

On a cold winter night a 100+ people left their comfortable homes to stand in the cold and hold a candle to bring attention to the climate of fear created by Pia Durkin.

I wanted to be there but I was afraid to go. I can't afford to be fired.

To all the wonderful people who came out for the Candlelight Vigil, thank you.

STANDING STRONG AND UNITED

Stay united and strong. Thank you Lou.

Nice show of support, however, nothing will happen until someone starts the ball rolling to have HER removed!! Many younger Teachers are afraid. They can man the classrooms one day while the rest of us walk out...time is ticking to save this school system!!!

all of this is fine but there is no process in motion, no tool in the toolbox that can stop the turnaround model. It is happening and there doesn't seem to be any option to stop it. If you disagree, you should state exactly what will happen that will prevent it. Any takers?

The NBEA has actually gone in the opposite direction, voting for the turnaround contract which the public and press have taken as NBEA approval of the model.

Whether the teachers contract approval is technically a turnaround approval or not doesnt matter. The contract was the last chance to use some process to stop turnaround. Instead of recommending a 100% rejection, the union recommended approval. The union was also on the stakeholder redesign groups and made no effort there.

These rallies, blogs, and vigils are more about feeding the grievance mindset that the NBEA can use in future battles. It's a warning to the school department for the next issue, not this issue.

As of now, Feb 11th, you can bet that the turnaround will happen exactly as the superintendent wants.

Admit it and move on.

I'm ready to make a bolder move. Unfortunately, it seems like too many members feel "safe" and would never help others in terrible working situations. I'm getting disgusted with people I have defended and honored over the years. Where have they been? Who can be trusted? Why don't they care about their union colleagues? It is wrong. Is it true that those that teach in small departments or coach teams feel like they won't be touched? This whole process seems wrong.

Getting the feeling I won't be back but even if I knew I was going to be back I would show up to support. What is happening is absolutely wrong. I live here and if by chance I find myself with a commute next year I would still support. This is just ugly. Anyone who doesn't support is becoming as unattractive as the turnaround plan itself.

I attended the candlelight vigil last night and was somewhat disappointed with the turnout. I am an elementary teacher and walked the line to share hellos with my colleagues and it appeared to me that the majority of members participating were also elementary staff. What is going on with both our middle school and HS brothers and sisters? For months we have read on this blog of the plight of NBHS teachers. Are they expecting someone else to fight their fight for them? Maybe it is easier sit in the comfort of home, complain on the blog and expect others stand up for you. For those who did not attend last night, it is the same analogy as those who do not vote do not have the right to complain. I will continue to stand in unity with my fellow teachers, but honestly this is disheartening.

I was unable to make the candlelight vigil, due to a long standing appointment that I could not miss. I was at the City Hall Rally, and will continue to support my fellow teachers with my presence. Just because it isn't to the 50% firing point at MY school doesn't mean that it won't be down the road. Everyone has committments and can't show up for every function, but we need to stand united with our NBHS peers. Your school may be next.

I wouldn't want to work with people that don't look out for others. What kind of school system encourages this type of competition? A Pia Durkin school system. Upheaval for upheaval's sake-just ask Attleboro.
