I think our public schools just need new fancy names...to sound more "charterish" ... Submitted to NBEA

When will the war on public schools end? If you want improvement at any level it is very very simple. Lower class size and place the chronically disruptive students in an alternative school setting. Call a new school anything you'd like, but it will not change the reality that New Bedford classes are overcrowded and the very small percentage of highly disruptive students are ruining the educational experience for all.

I think our public schools just need new fancy names...to sound more "charterish".

Normandin will now be called: "City on a Tarkiln Hill"

Roosevelt will now be called:
"City on a Kinda Near the Water"

Keith will now be called:
"City on a Former Dump Site that's been Capped"

Your are right! Huge classes, disruptive students, no help, no supplies don't make for a good environment . Too bad the mayor and Pia are too slow to grasp this concept. They rather spend money on their cronies.

Very valid point and so true........loved the new names and actually laughed out loud. Glad to see someone still keeping a sense of humor in this very difficult time of being a NBPS educator. Thanks for the laugh. It made my day!

Things have gotten worse at NBHS if you could believe it. Disruptive students still not being disciplined, administration still not doing anything- why would they? They were told as of June 30, they are not welcomed back. So daily, there is a parade of students walking the core, disrupting classes, and at the end of the day, refusing to leave the building. SRO 's escorting students back to class or out of the building. They keep saying Brockton model, but they are no where close to doing what Brockton did. I don't sleep nights, worrying that any day, NBHS will be the next school making nationl news for some terrible tragedy. The kids who want to be there are the ones hurt by this political game.... and by the constant negative media blitz of the sub- Standard Times.

What is our great leader Durkin doing to stop all this madness? Oh, that right nothing as she is very busy stacking her administrative team with new hires and large salaries.

What is our mayor doing? Defending Durkin as being the best superintendent in the country, and remember, we are heading in the right direction--DESTRUCTION just like the whaling industry.

What will our School Committee do? NOTHING just SIT by and WATCH it HAPPEN.

SAD

Another name for the sub-Standard Times is the STRANDARD TIMES. They are "out there" alright, where no one knows! They want to make teachers sound like complainers (no resources, supplies, kids (inmates) running the asylum, etc.), but they have never actually been inside the high school as real REPORTERS. Also, teachers had ANOTHER survey to fill out at more expense and results going. . . . where again?
Perhaps STRANDARD like the newspaper since we are never told the results or see any changes that actually help the students!

The classes also need money stop stealing the children's money by taking your cut omits way down ,and stop funding stupid projects like where are you headed.

Why are you filling out the surveys the way they treat you tell them to shove it..

Besides the "Where Are You Headed?" fiasco, the teachers have had to instill the "Be Nice" campaign and workshops on the "Bullying" initiative! The truth is Administration hasn't "been very nice" or cooperative with the teachers and teachers are the ones being "bullied!" Go figure! We wonder what Administration will think of next to waste the money on!

The "Where Are You Headed?" push is now in the gutter as teachers are "headed" (or pushed) out the door! So much for that slogan! Between Administration, the Mayor, School Committee, and sub Standard. . . . . none of them can get anything right. What is wrong with NB? Why do we keep getting these Bozos elected? The joke about being located in the "armpit" of the
State may have some truth after all! All joking aside, this is a very sad situation for everyone involved and will go down as a tragic chapter in the history of New Bedford Public Schools.
