I have faith that Dr. Durkin is destroying our school system.

The only people that will be safe under Durkin will be the politically connected.

Several school committee members have relatives that work for the school department. I really don't think those in the family plan have to worry.

"My opinion is that top leadership is key, and we have that now," Pollock said.

Truth is, the school comm realize that they have no idea what they are doing and have stepped back. I think that's a good thing.

The real committee is Mitchell, Chester, Mohler Faria. Not sure that's a good thing.

Pollack can make all the comments she wants, but she is no better. At the last school committee meeting, she whispered to Jack Nobrega "I knew she was trouble, the way she walked in" (picked up by cable)in response from someone speaking out during the meeting. Now that's what you call professionalism from a SC member. What a joke! Exactly, the kind of leadership we have here in New Bedford.

This is coming from Marlene Pollock who was voted out? Her statement is meaningless and lacks authenticity.

Why? What has Durkin done to earn that faith? She wants us to have our students gain by 40% no excuses. Yet, no one mentions that less than 5% of the parents showed up to her meetings. That means 19 out of 20 parents who have children at NBHS did NOT attend her meeting. Why is she allowed as the Superintendent to have such a poor connection to parents? What is her excuse? Most of those that did attend the meeting were teachers.

Is Pollock aware of the new plan to cut the sped population? She should seek out the memo that was sent out on how to get around providing services.

I read somewhere that communities and cities have karma just like individuals do....I wonder what New Bedford did wrong to deserve P I A -- maybe it was all those whales we killed in the 1800 and 1900s

Teacher evaluations have absolutley nothing to do with teachers ability, effectiveness or proven success with students. It is a tool being used to discredit teachers. Receiving a needs improvement is only a method used on evaluations to help the superintendent justify her ridiculous turnaround plan. Superintendent Durkin has no intention of working with staff now that the turnaround plan is in place. Things will continue to be her way and her way only. Why? The mayor and school committe gave her total control and took away any opportunity for discussion without fear of retribution. Teachers are working in a very hostile environment while Mayor Mitchell sits idly by allowing the best teachers in our city no recourse but to resign or suffer under the reign of Durkin. WAKE UP MAYOR MITCHELL!!!!! You talk out of both sides of your mouth. You talk about bringing job opportunities to New Bedford and sit by as highly educated teachers are leaving our system. If the Southcoast Teacher of the Year isn't good enough, please enlighten me, who is?

If Durkin were held to the same standards as teachers, this weeks evaluation would be" NEEDS IMPROVEMENT", as she was only able to get at best 10% of parents to attend her latest meeting. How does it feel to be evaluated by something you have no control of? Let's not forget, this was her second attempt. Wouldn't that make her highly ineffective? Under her plan she should have to reapply for her job as well.

It is not about not providing services, it is about not hiring the sped teachers necessary to be in compliance with IEPs. Most of our IEPs are out of compliance because there is not enough manpower to to provide what is needed. If the sped kids are no longer identified, then we don't need the sped teachers. Kids will be in gen ed classes with no supports. Don't worry. They can just sit in the back. They won't be part of the 40% to focus on.

yee have little faith

Why is she still allowed to speak? She should have been muzzled years ago! God, she is an embarrassment!

Is this woman smoking crack? Faith in this Superintendent???? What a joke. This city is on a path of destruction with its schools and anyone with half a brain can see that. This beats all.

I have faith in the ballot box. Can't wait to vote Marlene Pollock OUT!

I hate Pia Durkin!

With less than 5 percent of the parents showing up for the meetings regarding NBHS's plan for next year indicates to me that Durkin has failed at reaching out to the parents and guardians. Guess she did not have enough RIGOR in her statements and calls in all three languages to make the parents interested in attending these meeting. Her grade is 5, bet she thought 95 percent of the parents were going to show up for her all important meeting. Pia you need to have more RIGOR RIGOR in order to pass.

Do I have faith in her, NO.

What people need to do is vote this nut out of office!

Anonymous said...

Are you f....ing crazy....

Anonymous said...

Her record would say otherwise. Everywhere she goes she destroys morale and has not left any place better off than it was before she got there. This is not someone to have faith in.

Anonymous said...

Your right about the evaluations..it is a tool to discredit teachers ,............

Anonymous said...

Apparently, Durkin is not "engaging" the community, and this shows no evidence of "rigorous" planning.....just quoting from my latest evaluation....

Anonymous said...

Of course Marlene would support Pia. Her son now can have his pick of whichever job he wants. Maybe he'll be able to do some rigorous, engaging instruction. With Pia, Marlene and sonny boy around there will be no more fights, every kid will want to be in school and their caring, involved parents will attend every meeting. Can't wait to see it.

Bring back Portia...........

Is Nanopalous still alive?

Wasn't this our prediction at the very beginning? Durkin will never have the support of parents. They don't surrender trust. It has to be earned and the community buzz is "don't trust the superintendent". Our students are informing their parents a/b the campaign to remove their teachers in all languages. Move on, lady b/c you're doomed. This is our city, our students, and they have our backs!

We will never get a Superintendent as smart, fair and as wonderful as Mr. Nanopoulos.

How humiliating it is to read a post like this. Talk about someone who has LOST touch with reality. Does anyone really think this nonsense goes on in other school districts? Think again. I have moved on from NB and am actually treated like a human being and respected for my education, dedication and hard work. NB teachers: you can do better!

Someone please schedule an MRI for this woman immediately!!!!!!

Faith, like respect, is earned. Despite her claims, Dr. Durkin neither values nor trusts the employees of the NBPS. This is evident by the fact that she is firing professional staff left and right in the schools and at PRAB building. Her callousness has resulted in physical illness of staff and demoralization of those who welcomed her to the city back in September. Ms. Pollack, we have no faith or confidence in a leader with such indifference to others. Shame on you for supporting her outright cruelty to the children and teachers in the NPBS!

So, Marlene wants something from Pia?

Let us talk about Marlene, shall we? Who is she? Where did she come from? Who is she connected to? Well I have known Marlene for over 25 years. My first encounter with her was when I attended BCC. Both Marlene and her husband Dan Gilbarg were professors there. I was a straight A student and even got an A in her class. However, the entire semester, we as students were pressured by her to attend these "rally protests" on various social agendas. One was against the NB Housing Authority. This was in the late 80's. She arranged for transportation and rides to NB for students who could make it. If you did not participate, she put more pressure. Marlene and her husband both have jobs at BCC. Hmmm. I smell some connections. Well it gets better. A few years go by and I hear the name Ben Gilbarg from many people. Who is he? Well he is her son. What is he doing? He is running Third Eye. Third Eye was a group in the city run with city funds. More connections. Next Ben gets married and lo and behold, his wife now gets a job. Now Marlene runs for school committee and supports firing the teachers. Well where do you think old son and daughter-in-law will end up working? Mr. Finnerty also has a son working at the high school. Will he get his job back? Do we see the connections?

Marlene can kiss my *ss!

Anonymous said...

It appears that members of the SC have grown old and obsolete. They have lost touch with reality. Their heads should be on the chopping block for failing in their responsibilities.

Anonymous said...

Third Eye and Pollock? Well, that's enlightening. The pieces are all coming together. Pollock's BCC actions are not surprising and neither was her relationship with former Diversity & Equity Asst. to the Superintendent who, coincidentally, has started her own International Consulting firm in the MA area. Her NBPS accomplishments are highlighted: Conducting investigations and reaching out to, and engaging our community of immigrants. She also claims to have dealt with bullying issues when she was a top-notch bully. Maybe we can sic them on each other and take bets on the outcome. This is just another day in "Look what the cat dragged in..."

Bad mistake, Marlene. We are smarter than you give us credit for. Eventually, the whole truth comes out. You are a fraud! Hope Pia knows the show of support is only for you to gain a favor. Disgusting! You all deserve each other.

If Durkin's track record is so superb, why did Attleboro choose to fire her? Here they had a leader bringing them up and they choose to clip her wings and send the demon packing? Why? That doesn't seem to make good business sense. You have a leader you should have faith in and you send them packing? Attleboro knows the true story. Look at the national mess they were in when she instructed the staff not to serve lunches to those poor students. She called the shots and when the blame got flung around, she ducked and blamed others. She is taking down our school system and the fools on the School Committee and at City Hall are just following this tyrant and turning a blind eye. Where are our School Committee members? I only see one newly elected member attend any events. Why are they not engaging parents? We need to organize and do it fast. We need to steam roll them right out during the next election.
