President Obama said he supported the Central Falls turn-around plan when he heard about what and why it transpired. We are running out of options. But, the difference was that the district of Central Falls worked with their teachers collaboratively and in collective bargaining with their union. What is occurring with here with rehiring at a lesser salary substantiates the depth of the financial crisis and misuse of funds here in the district of New Bedford. Top-level PRAB personnel are siphoning precious monies from our school budget to provide valuable resources for our students. Not only that, but to screw teachers out of their salaries is horrendous. Isn't this against the law. Lou, please backtrack and let us provide the documentation in unison to take these SOBS to court. Many crimes have been committed including intentional physical and emotional abuse against teachers. I have an attorney in mind that can assist us all. We have already started the ball rolling toward setting a precedence. Together, we can do this as the truth prevails. Just say the word and I will make the call. I have saved everything since day one, and I am sure you, along with our colleagues, have evidence, as well. Once on the stand, we can share our stories to bring down their house of cards. Who else is in? We are fighting to preserve our dignity and our beloved jobs. If we truly did not care, we would have surrendered long ago. Please agree to this. I believe in us and our cause. We have been wronged on so many fronts. I implore you to consider this avenue before it is too late. At the very least, we will gain some time to mitigate and stall the dismissals of the mass firings.
Please note that my request to bring this to court was also suggested by a member of the City Council as this person believes it is the right thing to do.
Publishing my post on the blog provides me the incentive to make the call. This will be my priority after work tomorrow. I will share my story and everyone else will also have that opportunity. Everything will be run through the union president as he will have the final say as a courtesy of respect. The city will foot the bill and my hope is we will be compensated for our suffering and have our jobs reinstated if that is what we want. This attorney is connected to Capital Hill and has a reputation to fight for the underdog with much success. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a very long time and it feels liberating. I do this not only for myself, but for a district I wholeheartedly care about, my students who depended on me, and my colleagues. I never gave up hope and neither should anyone else. We know our value and nobody can take that away from us. I take this stand in the face of adversity. I am a team player with every fiber of my being and my loyalty runs deep to those I care about.
I don't have a problem contacting our state representatives or Governor Deval Patrick. To be honest, that is a good idea. We all should voice our concerns and ask them to intervene. We are registered voters and our voices need to be heard on all political platforms.
I'm in for bringing the abuse that I have silently and fearfully have put up with this year to court...I know so many secrets about my school and the illegal things that they have done that I believe some would go to jail
Bringing this nonsense to court is WAY overdue. Let's hope the union listens. Enough is enough. I am sure this is the right course of action. This is how you deal with a bully!!
To go to court you need a cast iron issue, a specific point of law.
The firings are based in law that was passed 4 years ago by all of our supporters in the legislature, with some protest from the MTA ( don't blame them, they asked us at the time to go , write, rally. I guess we were too busy blogging about people's weight.
Other misbehavior has to be based in law and with actual evidence of a violation strong enough to lead to a legal correction. That will take time and is a very high bar to prove.
Be clear, a legal route is fine, but will take 18 months and the firings are done and will not change.
Blind loyalty to the Democratic party has sabotaged urban educator's rights here in Massachusetts and across the country. Neither party is a party for the people. Both parties have sold us out. Believe in that and you will see them listen to your every word.
The teachers have to take the mandated ethics test-Mayor Durkin should also READ this document because she has broken quite a few rules. I guess it's good to be queen!
News Flash. The new principal at NBHS was put on administrative leave from Central High School in Providence RI for falsifying fire drill reports (ML). Check it out. Pia had to know this.
Is this the best they can get, or do they just not care b/c it's a warm body? Once again, we accept all rejects and past histories do not matter. It is not about attracting and retaining the best of the best, but more about selecting the bottom of the barrel. We, the teachers, could do a much better job if we were given half a chance. They opt to hire shady characters with a fat pay check instead of committed, hard-working, experienced, and qualified educators like ourselves. Instead, we've been exiled.
It was well known that those of us with qualifications were not looked at due to what SHE believes are our flaws. She flatly stated that no one here had what it takes to turn around NBHS. I guess we just don't have a fire in our bellies, resilience or grit. Unlike these people, we will not be running to our next payout. We believe in our students. Fire in our bellies, we walk through fire every day for our kids. Hopefully they will too.
Doesanyone know what became of the previous HM and AHM? Have they been reshuffled into positions downtown or are they out of work? What about the Housemasters? What happened to them?
The write up about the newly appointed headmaster and principals praised them and their accomplishments to the point in which they were brightly shining stars. No mention of a shady past. Why omit the most important pieces of information? Why lie to us and the public?
Is the former HM being shuffled to an admin position at Whaling City? When I think back to his previous words about passion for education and love for our students I want to puke. He never advocated or stuck up for us. He knew we were being targeted and being evaluated unfairly. I don't give a damn about Mass general law 69 that vests the superintendent full discretion on rehiring teachers. We are the scapegoats. A law suit is long overdue. I have been seeking medical treatment for almost a year due to the stress and abuse. My claim will target the emotional distress and pain and suffering associated with my job, a job I may not have for much longer. My attorney is already reviewing my documentation and the final decision is mine. Everyone from the mayor, sc, superintendent, and high school admin should fry! I doubt this happens in other districts. They can take this job and shove it.
The HM has turned into a robot spouting Pia's propaganda. I once had a great deal of respect for him, but having experienced his evaluation and having gone from "Proficient" for 13 years to "Needs Improvement" to "Unsatisfactory" in one year in which I have worked harder than ever, at the expense of my health.....that respect is down the drain. There are people whom I won't look in the eye at that school after the dishonesty and innuendos they have put in writing, all at the direction of high administration. We are all wondering what the HM has been promised in exchange for his blind obedience. Yes, he has a family to support, but don't we all! Why others have turned from Dr. Jekylls to Mr. Hydes is still a mystery....but I have a feeling we'll find out whether it's just weakness of character or promises of a golden future.
That is why Pia has to sleep with one eye open. The loyalty is only superficial because someone wants something...a job. It is rather comical to witness. We also know that these people sold out...they have no integrity. As such, they will receive no respect. This is the true definition of a coward in sheeps' clothing!

Mitchell hates the teachers, He doesn't have the gumption to stand up and speak the truth!
The mayor isn't going to do anything about this. He's weak and afraid of Durkin. Let's face it she's got him on a very short leash.
The City Council should not give this woman a dime after this. Let her go beg Mitchell Chester for money.
A better target for everyone's wrath would be your state representatives who allowed this turnaround BS to become law.

This is what is happening here. TOXIC!

Mayor Durkin , karma is a bitch!

This crazy woman is determined to shake everyone up which is a ploy to undermine any sense of security.
I see the 2 new principals have recent employment flaws. One was on administrative leave...the other left his last post after 4 months?
Nothing puts a "fire in your belly" like 100k.

The current leaders at nbhs were on 120k. Why didn't they clean the building, set curriculum? Help struggling teachers and students?
Is this the best they can get, or do they just not care b/c it's a warm body? Once again, we accept all rejects and past histories do not matter. Anyone have an idea of what the pay scale is?
Why didn't you apply?

I didnt win the lottery...I was not looked at so I didnt buy a ticket.
Maybe Pia thought "fire drill" said "fire in the belly"?
