Everyone's voice must be heard ... Submitted to NBEA

I am a teacher at an elementary school in New Bedford. I first would like to thank each and every parent that is supporting us in our time of need. My second statement would be for everyone who is unhappy with the direction of the school system, please show your support not only by writing into the blog but into the newspapers, to our city council, and also and most importantly attend our school committee meetings. We, including teachers, all must band together now more than ever to show Dr Durkin that she cannot bully us any longer. A lot of teachers have stayed silent and not attended because they didn't think the climate of fear would creep into their schools. I sadly am one of those teachers. Unfortunately, the climate of fear and misery has creeped into my school. I will be at every school committee meeting from now on, not to speak but to just show that I care. We need people to gather into these meeting so she knows she is losing her grip. Please parents, taxpayers, make yourself seen at the next school committee meeting and for those of you who have stories to tell, tell them. Everyone's voice must be heard!!!!

Back when I studied the Holocaust in school, I remember thinking, "How did Hitler get over 6 million people to follow along blindly and not fight back"? Then I realized, it's happening right here in our district. We are finally waking up and fighting back this time and hopefully our vote of no confidence will carry weight.

Good luck in your endeavor to get the taxpayers and citizens of New Bedford to attend school committee meetings and support your cause. It is obvious to me that most people don't give a damn about what is happening in the school department. You can't get them out to vote out the deadwood that are running our city. Take a look at the city council and the school committee - the citizens of New Bedford continue to vote most of the same useless people back into office. And...I might add that it was a huge disappointment to see how few New Bedford teachers actually showed up to support the NBEA at the city hall rally. It's a little late to try to rally the troops....they should have been there all along. I'm afraid too many battles have been lost and the war has already been won....by Durkin. She is not afraid of the teachers, their union, or the taxpayers of New Bedford. She has the complete and full support of the mayor, the DESE, and the school committee. What is happening now is going to continue until every last teacher who has been here for several years is gone. That is Durkin's goal and she will achieve it.

You sound like "Eyore" from Winnie the Poo ...."we're all doomed ..." In the immortal words of Bluto from Animal House (because that is what the NBPS has become-a three ring circus) "WAS IT OVER WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR...NO !!!!! chin up ... The fat lady hasn't sung yet!

If you read the editorial and op-ed piece in today's paper....you will once again see that Durkin has the full support of the Standard-Times (no surprise there) and a group of other concerned citizens. Their answer is to make the tax-payers of New Bedford pay more to support her new crop of administrators and lackeys that are coming in to take over. I still doubt that she is going anywhere anytime soon. I was reading those articles as I had breakfast - make me sick to my stomach and couldn't finish. By the way.....I hope the fat lady starts singing soon and it wouldn't hurt if she had a choir of hundreds as back-up singers.

Durkin's budget is asking for $4.6 million more than the state-mandated minimum...
...turnaround plans at the John Avery Parker Elementary School and New Bedford High School.

Of course it more than the state mandated minimum and CHESTER will gladly approve her request. Durkin is a master manipulator and she has plans for that money and it ain't about the students! She can create more top-level positions and offer jobs to those who will carry out her mission to seek and destroy. It's a sick, vicious cycle.

For each veteran teacher she eliminates, it equates to an approximate savings of $30,000.00 a year.

That's a lot of power and money at the disposal of a neurotic, unscrupulous, and vindictive superintendent. This is a dangerous and explosive combination.
