I think it's time to put another meeting together of the NBEA Unit A members and vote no confidence in the mayor, school committee and superintendent. These people do not care about teachers, students, or the direction that they are leading us. We are pigs being brought to the slaughterhouse.

I have no confidence in the mayor, school committee, or superintendent. None of these people are leading this district in a direction that is attainable or safe. These people need to resign effective TODAY!

The superintendent, mayor and school committee are so out of touch with what happens in our schools. I vote no confidence in them and demand that they resign!

Signed a very angry educator!

The Superintendent is shocked that after months of attacking and disrespecting teachers at NBHS, someone attacked and disrespected a teacher at NBHS.

I'll give credit to the kid -- he's being honest in his contempt. Durkin hides behind office doors and pointing fingers. They're equally contemptuous and contemptible, but the student has the integrity to be straightforward in his attitude.

The student will write a statement and the teacher will be held responsible. Admin. will wash their hands and say it is a classroom management issue and that is what the teacher gets paid for. Then the teacher will be humiliated and fired
or be so demoralized that she retires or resigns. That's what you call a "TURN AROUND".

Wow, what nerve this superintendent has. She is insinuating that this poor teacher is somehow responsible for this student's act due to not being able to DE-ESCALATE the situation. Are you kidding me? What planet did Pia come from? I WOULD LOVE to see her in the same situation.

City Council; this superintendent, the mayor and the school committee are making a mockery of the city of New Bedford.

Btw. This video has also made its way up to Boston on a blog that is popular with the 20-30 year old called BARSTOOLSPORTS.

Hey Pia, there’s a good teacher recruitment advertisement for you!

1. Teacher is following the protocol for cell phones, speaking evenly, quietly, and even respectfully.
2. Student is rude, disrespectful, and violent.
3. Superintendent claims TEACHER is wrong for not having the skills to "de-escalate" the event.
AND EVERYBODY IS OK WITH THIS??????

Looks like the student is being charged...is that one student charged for every thirty five assaults on teachers. The school system needs leaders not commanders or SC members that sleep during meetings

Attleboro must be glad to have washed their hands of her!

This incident just made channel 10 news. You can run, Pia, but you cannot hide.

Durkin, Mitchell, and SC are detrimental to this district.

I am a teacher as New Bedford High School and have been for quite some time! When asked in my interview, years ago, "why we should hire you", my response was quite simple. I am a teacher because I love children. I belonged at New Bedford High School because I am a product of NBPS and am a lifelong resident of the city of New Bedford. My prayer was to help the children of the city and be a positive role model for these children that may or may not have any positive role models in their everyday lives. Today, if I were asked the same question, I would run in the opposite direction. I am a human being. I have dignity! I deserve respect!

Pia Durkin, this message is for you. Please stop patronizing myself and the other intelligent adults listening to your political garbage. "Oh, I didn't know!" Yeah, sure you didn't know. You know when we sneeze wrong and are fast to come down on us like the "bad children" that you seem to think we are. Oh, you didn't know? Funny... a housemaster came and got the child from the room. This housemaster is watched like a hawk by your "spies" permanently located in the building. Keep claiming your ignorance to this problem. You're good at that! Attleboro didn't want you and New Bedford doesn't want you either. Shame on the school committee for allowing this to happen. Put the pressure on this woman to put the screws to the kids. If you put your hands on another person at any school in the district, you should be expelled immediately and police should be called and the child should be removed from the school permanently! No questions asked! I am disgusted that the superintendent and school committee have not stood up for teachers. We are parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, children, sisters, brothers, cousins, friends. We have families to go home to. If anything happens to me, I guarantee you will be dealing with my long line of family members and will have to answer to them.

I have no confidence that the superintendent, mayor or school committee are steering us in a direction that will get teachers and/or students killed or seriously injured. What will it take for admin to react? Does a child have to die first?

Anonymous said...

Or does a TEACHER have to die first????

Anonymous said...

The Elephant responds to the question, "Does a child have to die first?"

The answer is simple and supported by history.

Yes. Teachers and students have to die first.

But there's a catch...

If someone is seriously injured or killed, Pia Durkin and her bully loving enablers will blame violent video games, Marilyn Manson music, the influence of Satan, mental illnesses with Three Stooges names, liberals, the NRA, or almost anything else that allows them to avoid addressing the problem of violent students and the criminally incompetent parents who role model their behavior.

Denial protected bullies, bad parents, and enabling school administrators in relatively wealthy places like Littleton, CO. and it'll work in New Bedford as well.

How long should we wait to feel like our district is improving? Are we only going to trust data that has been manipulated or will we trust first-person accounts?

Anonymous said...

When there is a tragedy in this city, this Durkin will be on WBSM making more excuses and blaming the teachers for not stopping it. She is demented. The public is seeing through her craziness and she won't be able to bamboozle her way out of the mess she's created

Attleboro does the happy dance everyday that they no longer have to put up with Pia's torture. Praying we get rid of this washed up out dated farce of a leader very soon and we can do the happy dance!

What did the housemaster do regarding this issue? Guess that person dropped the ball.

TEACHERS! LEND ME YOUR EARS!!! It's time that we stand together and NOT get involved in any altercation that goes on at any school in the district. These kids fight at school knowing someone will stop them and they won't get seriously injured. I wonder how many fights will happen once kids realize they could actually get hurt because teachers are doing their jobs and calling for help. The problem is... help doesn't come!

Got to read this. Says it like it is.

Vote of No Confidence should have happened months ago...without question.

Ripley's BELIEVE IT OR NOT: There was another attack on a school staff member at the same time that this was going on. This second incident is being swept under the rug. The student involved in the other altercation allegedly was led out of the office in handcuffs by the School Resource Officers. I am told this is why the SROs did not respond to the incident of the chair being thrown, although their intervention had been requested.

Anonymous said...

I know there is more than one SRO at the high school.

So where were the other SROs?

Did the person who answered to call contact the other SROs?

Were they busy taking care of another serious issue?

Inquiring mind would like to know.

In light of this chair throwing incident, I wonder what the people who signed the ad in support of Pia are thinking now.
