The Elephant found this video to be no more confusing or disturbing than the well documented events that occurred in Oklahoma City, Columbine, and Newtown. People who spend their adolescent years living in fear of violent classmates often turn into very interesting and media worthy young adults.
You won't find the following job description written anywhere, no politician would dare utter these words, and it certainly isn't written into law.
Job Description: A parent's job is to transform an infant member of a violent, predatory species into a civilized, young adult, preferably by consistent role modeling.
The job of parents is often difficult, but the Job Description itself could hardly be conceptually simpler. Unfortunately, parents are not trained to do their job. There's no screening process to prevent bullies, bigots, batterers, and other obvious incompetents from becoming parents. And there are few, if any remedies written into our laws.
The results are obvious to anyone living outside a cave and nothing will change as long as the subject of criminally incompetent parents are a taboo subject.
Start talking about bad parents...a lot.

Bad parents equal bad kids. Kids acting out to "entertain" their friends is what you saw. Just wondering while this was going on where were the other teachers in adjoining rooms? There is an emergency panic button in each room. Just push *. * on the phone. Many people do not know that. Yes the brat should have quality time with his parents with the headmaster. The teacher should also press charges. The others that were giving that brat the forum to endanger the lives of other should be arrested also. That was gang mentality at it's best. The worst part of the story is that the two that can be recognized are "student athletes".
Yet, the mayor and Durkin fire teachers. Those two have to go.
This happens because students for the most part are not held accountable for their actions. Excuses are made over and over and nothing is done about. The lack of consequences start at the elementary level and just progresses as the child gets older. Gone are the days of principals being responsible for the discipline, as teachers we are told to handle it in the classroom and this is wrong. People are right, we as teachers do not get paid enough for all that we deal with each and every day. Most of the day is spent disciplining and dealing with classroom management. Ask any substitute that works in our district, at any school level, it starts in kindergarten!!!This is very sad to see. My daughter had this teacher 10 years ago and she was a compassionate, tolerant, experienced teacher who loved her work and was dedicated to make the most of each one of her students. I will guarantee the new teachers entering this field have their work cut out for them. Classroom discipline/management takes lots of hard work and consistency, as well as experience. Good luck to all the brave souls entering this challenging, ye,t rewarding in many ways, field!!!!
Parents? Plural? Even one might be a plus.
The Elephant apologizes for the grammatical error.
When I suggested talking about bad parents I was really referring to conversations outside of this weblog. If even a tiny percentage of American public school teachers sent one letter per week containing the term "criminally incompetent parents" to the legislators and media outlets of their choice, the taboo against speaking of the problem would probably begin breaking down in a matter of months. Legislators would begin to sense an opportunity to attract votes and media outlets would realize that audience share might increase if they cover the subject.
You're all literate. Start writing.
By the way...did anyone notice the grammatical error mentioned above?
How is this the teacher's fault! Lack of consequences , lousy parents and a administration that lacks leadership-that is where the fault lies! Time to sue! This superintendent stinks~!
Nobody said it was teachers fault.
You Will Know Them by Their Fruits
As for School Comm: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits."
Durkin's interview on radio was a shielded accusation that it will be the teacher's fault... this is not even the whole video. The teacher is trapped behind her desk, cannot get to the phone. Adjoining classroom teacher hears the commotion and runs to her classroom phone to call for help. Meanwhile, after desk is broken, kid proceeds to smash everything off the teacher's desk. And the class sits there laughing. Housemaster removes the child from class, but doesn't know why she is removing the student? I find that hard to believe! Let's blame.the teacher who now has ptsd from the whole experience.... all because administration told the teachers to handle things in the classroom because they are too.busy.
How many times does this have to happen b/f somebody cares? This is not a unique experience.
If the mayor had faith in our teachers rather than blind faith in Pia durkin perhaps we could be in a safer place. I
Hear, hear...children learn what they live...period.
