Hmmmmm.

Pia Durkin instructed teachers to reduce the number of suspensions? Isn't that like a mayor instructing the municipal police force to reduce the number of arrests...possibly so he or she can then proudly report a reduction in crime?

Where does one find such high quality leadership?

Instructing teachers to suspend fewer students is like instructing police officers to arrest fewer criminals.

There are lies, damned lies, and there are statistics.

It's a shame that we pay these "leftovers" huge salaries....$190,000!

Teachers do not suspend students! Administrator do. I teacher cannot request suspension. Student handbook indicates what might happen when a rule is broken. Durkin told us all there would be a 50% reduction in suspension. No where were we told that there would be a 50% improvement in behavior. The kids got the message. So did the administrators. Administrators only suspend when their numbers allow. It seems to be more important to win an attendance award than to suspend a student for bad behavior.

^Great point. Heather Larkin's attendance program was overrated and supported. What if a stronger focus on respect and conduct had also garnered more recognition? The person that said our problems have been misdiagnosed should keep on posting here. We can't stop shining a light at the mistakes of district leaders.
