i am a parent who supports all teachers! I wish you the best of luck today on a strong large turn out. VOTE NO CONFIDENCE!!!
^ Perhaps we would be better off if Mayor Mitchell had a backbone and didn't follow Bob's orders. We probably wouldn't be in this mess if he just listened to the teachers.
Durkin is a bully and the Unger machine is still protecting her like they protected Bonner.
"Though she may be fairly criticized for her previous PR failings, Durkin is well-qualified and prepared to lead the transformation of the city's public schools. A campaign to undermine the plan, with an eye toward her eventual ouster, would be an overt invitation to the state for full receivership of the system." Standard Times"
Bob Unger and his herd of fools at the paper think they are an extension of the school committee. He has forgotten that the role of a newspaper is to report the news, not make the news. The mayor and the school committee should have the cajones to tell him to get lost. If he wants to set policy for the district, let him move to NB and run for school committee or mayor. Same for Urbon, who thinks he the smartest guy in the room. Notice how he has been very quiet since the two recent teacher assaults after his hair-brained column on how there is no big problem with teacher safety.
I beg to differ with the comment about high school teachers. Should we all wear our ID's so that you can tell who's who? There were many people not there. We all try to do what we can do. We should NOT be judging each other. We must be united in this effort. It is imperative that we stay united and not tear each other apart. That's what "they" want. Keep NEW BEDFORD STRONG.
I am a high school teacher, and I was at Friday's meeting. Re. high school teachers' attendance, yes, there could have been more of us; but, honestly, we are not a cohesive bunch. I spoke to many before Friday and some simply said that they weren't going and shrugged it off. . . . . .some have a job to go back to in Sept. and don't want to put the time in for others. They simply don't care and told me that they were "just going home" after school or had a lame excuse. I saw others teachers there who I know are retiring, resigning, or weren't called back. Personally, the "indifference" bothers me, and more teachers at the high school should be supportive. I also think that they feel "nothing will get accomplished" with our efforts.
How sad. If some high school teachers still have their jobs, aren't they secure enough to come out to support all the others? It is for their benefit too and the students...a common cause.
Lou I could not attend the meeting but read the article in which you commented. If you think the mayor and superintendent will magically support us and there will be transparency between teachers and administrators, then I have a T-rex living in my bathtub. To survive in this district, you need eyes in the back of your head.
Until this superintendent is gone, I will not allow my children to attend this district. I rather pay out-of-pocket to ensure they are safe and scandal-free.
Hey Mitchell, I am a chiropractor and would lend you a miniature model of a backbone with all the trimmings. I will even throw in some self-respect for free!
The picture of that dog supporting the sign on this post is GREAT! He looks intelligent, has perfect posture, and extrudes commitment and confidence. Too bad we can't say that about our mayor, superintendent, and bobble-head school committee!
But wait! Aren't we supposed to be getting RID of the bullies in our schools? Aren't we supposed to be protecting these children from being bullied? While we sit in our classrooms being bullied by the same people who are telling us we must prevent bullying. What a F'ing joke!!!!!
Isn't it ironic that teachers no longer address the subject of "bullying" in our classrooms as well as the "Be Nice" campaign? As it obviously turned out, the teachers are now being bullied by administration and they haven't been "very nice" to us. . . .by lowering the suspension rate and allowing the felons to remain in our classrooms throwing chairs and trash cans at the teachers!
Did the district REALLY think that a "Be Nice" campaign and a mini-unit on bullying would address these issues? How stupid can one be? This is not an intervention of any sort, but it placates the higher ups, right? This is how they do it and it's OUR fault!
Some of my classroom learning materials date back to the 1960's. Isn't that a crime? Where is the money for updated resources? Lining the pockets of Pia Durkin, her hires, and all the other thieves. This makes me angry.

To Bob Unger:
I don't think NBEA takes orders from you. Your orders should directed to Jon Mitchell. Jon will be happy to comply with all your wishes.
John Souza

Bob Unger has to be delusional. How can he categorize the abuse against teachers by Durkin as failed PR?
bob's bosses should give him a gold watch and send him away. He's obviously damaging the S-t.
^Just look at how well the rag is doing under Bob's watchful eye.
Time to STAND up for what is RIGHT and let our VOICES be heard loud and STRONG.
See you there.
NBEA STANDING STRONG AND UNITED.

"Contracts would be torn up, local control would be lost and New Bedford would suffer a black eye that would last for years." - Standard Times
Hey Bob, are you out of touch? Durkin ripped the contract apart on July 1.
Black eye? Mr Unger must not understand that Durkin, the mayor and the school committee have given us the black eye.
Is Unger suggesting that we should just allow ourselves to be emotionally abused by Pia Durkin?

Once again, high school teachers were not there in noticeable numbers.

Isn't it time to take the power back from pia and mitchell? They are bullies.

Maybe these teachers felt they would be spied up if they attended the meeting. We know how vindictive durkin is.
With a high turnover teacher rate, few subs, and negative publicity, they are going to hang themselves big time. I don't see a happy ending.
Until this superintendent is gone, I will not allow my children to attend this district. I rather pay out-of-pocket to ensure they are safe and scandal-free.

To those teachers who failed to show their support by not attending:
Most people mess up something good, by looking for something better just to end up with something worse.
The picture of that dog supporting the sign on this post is GREAT! He looks intelligent, has perfect posture, and extrudes commitment and confidence. Too bad we can't say that about our mayor, superintendent, and bobble-head school committee!
^What a farce...The monkey bunch. No damn good, the whole lot of them. They don't even play a good game.
But wait! Aren't we supposed to be getting RID of the bullies in our schools? Aren't we supposed to be protecting these children from being bullied? While we sit in our classrooms being bullied by the same people who are telling us we must prevent bullying. What a F'ing joke!!!!!
Pia is the worst kind of bully

NO CONFIDENCE IN THE WHOLE GANG OF $$$$$$$$$.

By kicking students off of SPED plans, there should be some residual monies. Parents should be up in arms over this discrepancy. Fire them all.
The mayor, SC, durkin, and the rest of the useless admin are felons in my opinion. They just have not been convicted yet.
lets keep union votes private and not public and more will attend.
