Great job, Bob. You almost single handily destroyed New Bedford Public Schools. That will be your legacy.

“No institution in this city has devoted more time and energy to improving the public schools. At times, we’ve taken positions that were less than universally popular. We’ve stood our ground and we’ve been right.” - Bob Unger.

Bob, you are so wrong and completely delusional.

Unger says that the decision to leave was strictly his. Sounds like he's leaving "to spend more time with his family."

Who are you kidding Bob? Under your leadership you driven that rag into the ground.

“I asked and received permission to put my position on the layoff list,” he said. “My hope is that by doing this the newspaper will continue to best serve New Bedford and SouthCoast. It will allow us to fill important jobs in gathering and editing the news.” - Bob Unger

Only an fool would believe his B.S.

I regret that Bob is leaving. If only he stayed a lit bit longer, the paper would go bankrupt.

"Unger said he’s not sure what he’ll do next, other than “to continue to serve my community and this region." I have an idea Bob. Why don't you run the education roundtable and the charter schools full yime? You could also chauffeur Dutra and his wife the next time they get drunk at one of Mitchell's fundraisers.

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell said he agreed. "His most enduring achievement will be in paving the way for education reform. His focus on high standards — even when it wasn't popular — will make New Bedford a stronger community in the long run."

Are we better off with Mitchell being used as Unger's puppet? I think not. Teachers being fired, nearly 20 classrooms at New Bedford High School still not being covered by teachers, teachers being assaulted, testing instead of teaching, and 300 + school department employees having left the district this last school year. And Bob Unger covered it all up for Mitchell.

Bob the Enquirer needs rag writers. Your expertise seems to be fantasy. Go for it!

Unfortunately, in the years to come, your legacy, no matter how many stories you have covered, will be known for contributing to the setback in education to the NBPS. Whether intentional or following blindly this administration’s propaganda without regard for the teacher’s outcry of unethical practices perpetrated on NBPS by this administration, you have been inept in your responsibility to the public. The enormous power that the pen as well as the microphone can have should be left to those willing to fully explore information from all sides of an issue and bias should be removed from the equation in these mediums on such issues of this importance to the public. To those who have a genuine stake in the education of New Bedford children, you failed in this regard and the future will prove this to be true.

I wonder who's going to take his place??? His has used his position as editor of the S-T to spread nastiness and untruths about the teachers in New Bedford. He has been nothing short of "evil" in his attempts to publically humiliate Lou St.John and the NBEA. His greatest achievement has been......"the destruction of NBPS and the hiring of Pia Durkin." Those are shameful acts - nothing to be proud of there. Let's just see how well Durkin's turn-around plan succeeds. I may personally invite him to dinner when things get even worse....on the menu will be a very large plate of "crow."

Keep the community service going, become a substitute teacher or fill an open position at NBHS.

You can't run from the data Bob. Modest gains after inflated administrative positions and the teacher bashing at one point seemingly daily-resulting in the district being unable to fill positions even after aggressive hiring practices tell the destructive story of the TRIAD of EDUCATIONAL DEFORMERS--PIA BOB JOHN

Now, parents have seen teachers pushed out and replaced by less effective, less dedicated, and less local ones.

Now that was easy, lets blame Bob Unger for destroying the New Bedford Public Schools. Not that anyone who actually teaches at the schools could possibly have anything to do with it. Try owning up to some responsibility and be part of the solution, not the problem!

Yes, let's blame Bob Unger for the destruction of New Bedford Public Schools since he's the one who has been driving the agenda. After all he is the great Ed Reformer.

I am still convinced that Dr Francis needed to be replaced. She was a rubber stamp for Scott Lang and nothing more. The fiscal mess started with Lang forcing out Larry Oliviera and hiring Deb Brown. There is no disputing this.
Jon Mitchell had no choice and hiring Mike Shea at the time was wise. Pia Durkin was hired and time has proven her as a failure. New Bedford High School is worse under her watch. Turnaround funds are being spent on existing teachers at a much higher rate than subs to cover classes with no teachers. Discipline is not any better. There are still classes with no teachers. Next year will be worse. Some of these newbies will leave with their 1 year of experience under their belt.

No business manager wants to work here. The school committee is disgraceful. They walked all over Bonner and Francis yet stay silent with Durkin. The biggest SPED advocate was Finnerty who now watches silently while students fail to receive the services they are required to receive by law.

The standard times is complicit in the destroying a school system that was broken but not destroyed. Pia Durkin was hired and rather than build on what worked, fix what was broken and create what was needed she destroyed what was left . As her cronies on Facebook say" she's building from the ground up, Rome wasn't built in a day" . To even compare what is happening today to the construction of Rome should insult every hard working educator in this city!

Well Durkin expects miracles from the teachers who have no help. Why should we give her any extra time, she hired so many high paid cronies to aid her. What a hypocrite.

I heard that Pia and Mitchell are desperately trying to avoid losing a principal to another district in March. They are attempting to promise her the moon if she stays. It will be too much of an embarrassment if she leaves.

Every teacher should call in sick on a Monday or Friday to protest the treatment they have received this year, over worked, degraded, abused, enough is enough.

To the blogger who posted Pia and John are promising a Principal everything to the moon and back....
If that is true that is a shame. This Principal is crass and unprofessional as well as MIA 80% of time.

Can someone please explain to me how a community organizer 6 years removed from college is qualified to be the new Chief of Operations at NBHS! It couldn't hurt that he worked for the Chief Academic Officer while he was in Worcester. So much for transparency.

The HS is a mess! No PR person can put a positive spin on it and these young kids haven't a clue!!!!! Pia will continue to destroy our system !

I heard that another teacher at the high school was attacked, is this true? We should call channel 10 news and have then investigate what is really happening!

Durkin is a bully and she will do everything in her power to cover up the truth and her failure as superintendent. Jon Mitchell is a true politician and a coward. The SC is a true joke. Chester has his own disingenuous motives. Unger ate it all up and it bit him in the ass. These people are disgusting and immoral. God doesn't sleep. All the innocent teachers who were abused or harmed will have the pleasure of watching this facade crumble.

Hopefully, they will all start dropping like flies on s..t.

Anonymous said...

Yes it is true. Happens more than people realize.

At least Unger stepped up. Remember that general meeting where NBEA voted against a freeze and let 50 members get pink slipped?
