WBSM Radio reports that the DESE will not review the NBPS Turnaround Plan “until the issue involving district leadership has been resolved.”
A DESE spokesperson said that Commissioner Mitchell Chester has been communicating directly with Mayor Mitchell in his role as Chair of the New Bedford School Committee.
Dr. Francis confirmed that the plan was submitted on the day it was due to Rene Perdue, a consultant assigned to work with New Bedford by the DESE.U
On March 29, Mayor Mitchell asked Chester for an extension. The mayor’s request was a surprise as the plan was judged to be sound by a Boston-based consulting company hired by the state to work with the district on the turnaround plan.

This is New Bedford's new soap opera: "A Tale of Two Mitchells."
Both of these men are egomaniacs that care nothing about the NBPS and its children.
Did the ed reform law of 1993 suddenly change without my knowing it? When did the law give mayors the authority to bypass superintendents and go directly to the DESE?
One could ask the same question of Mitchell Chester? Why are you bypassing the superintendent?
Is there a conspiracy against Superintendent Francis? Is Mitchell Chester involved?
Mitchell Chester's job is to approve or deny the plan his employees helped develop. Has he cut deals with Jon Mitchell, the tough former federal prosecutor?

Subject: NB district turnaround plan
Hi,
I got your voice mail about the NB turnaround plan.
Commissioner Chester did receive an email from Dr. Francis late Monday evening, April 2nd in which she
asked for guidance on whether to submit the district’s turnaround plan.
Commissioner Chester has been communicating on this matter with Mayor Mitchell
in his role as Chair of the School Committee.
Prior to April 2nd, the mayor had contacted the commissioner directly to request an extension to the deadline for
submitting the district’s turnaround plan.
The commissioner granted the mayor’s request for an extension and will work closely with the mayor on setting a new
timeline.
Given the fact that an extension has been granted, the Department
does not expect to receive nor will it review the district’s turnaround plan
until the issue involving district leadership has been resolved.
Mayor Mitchell is the most disastrous impediment to NBPS improvement... if anyone wants a scape goat, proof is in the putting! RECALL!!!!!!!
I wish I could say I can't believe this, but unfortunately, the mayor has been destroying our school system singlehandedly. I was never one for believing in conspiracy theories, but man, this guy is making me a believer!
Fall River is in the process of a recall of their mayor... why not give our colleagues a call and find out what we can do!
