Openline Weekend

On July 20, a parent, Donna Braley sent a very strongly worded letter to the St criticizing NB teachers. I'd like to offer my opinion on the matter.
I hear the concerns of this parent, and if these circumstances are true they are by no stretch of the imagination acceptable. We need to take into account several matters at this time. Was a full disclosure made to the authorities at the school pertaining to the allegations of the student and the parent? Were these allegations substantiated and if so what corrective measures were taken to correct the situation? Did the administration give a synopsis to the parents of the investigation? What corrective measures if any were put into place?
Keep in mind, when issues are not addressed to the administration there is little they can do. At times a full disclosure cannot be given to the parents due to confidentiality issues. Also sometimes situations are misrepresented and the act of discovery is essential to determine the proper course of action in any given situation.
What we must not do, which has been done way too frequently in the recent pass, is paint with a broad brush. Just as there are pockets of concern, so are there pockets of success.
To move forward we need to exclude any and all parties that cannot leave their own personal agendas at the door; then and only then can we all work together. Finally we need to listen to each other and be honest about the issues we face. Yes, to be brutally yet diplomatically honest. This is not an easy but a necessary task.
The teachers at Roosevelt are really getting screwed. They will have to contend with two negative forces. It appears that their ineffective and non-supportive principal will be around for another year. RMS educators will also have to fend off an innovation schools proposal that could destroy their building. That faculty really needs to get their act together and take care of both issues.
What are your thoughts on yesterday's paper with the robbery, 80 year old lady being struck on the head because she threw mangos, pellet gun shots ringing out, and last but not least the stealing of a rifle out of a locked trunk in a locked case bolted to the bottom of the trunk. Now the police department has become a victim. I am sure that the criminal is shaking in his/her boots after reading today's paper with the statement from Provencher. Wonder if Jon will do a nationwide search for a new chief! I think the P/D should be using those cameras to better surveilance on their parking lots or detectives' homes--especially the ones who take unmarked cars home.
Crime seems, in my opinion, have gone out of control since Jon, FFP, has taken office! Not a safe city.
Who is the next principal at Normandin? Anyone have an idea? I hope its someone who supports teachers and brings a sense of discipline to the building.
I think the ST coverage of the Carney fire perfectly reveals how they manipulate opinion. Someone at the paper has decided that the sprinklers are required, facts, laws, and cost be damned. Headlines are written to give the impression that the absence of sprinklers is crucial and interviewees who agree are put front and center in another story. They create the issue, they force the answers. Sound familiar?
They only just did interviews for Hay Mac... and from what I hear, Central Admin forgot to get paperwork in to DESE, therefore Hay Mac is the ONLY level 4 school in the Commonwealth that WILL NOT be getting additional funds required to increase student performance... good luck to whoever takes over that school!
And speaking of Hay Mac, the former principal of the consistently under performing level 4 school interviewed for the open housemaster position at NBHS. What a joke! Like they need any more crappy staff in that building! I hope they have enough sense not to hire her. If she does get it, it will only lend more evidence to the gross corruption and dirty practices perpetrated by central admin.
They have interviewed for Normandin. There were at least 8 candidates interviewed and the committee narrowed down to the top two or three who will be meeting with/interviewed by the current superintendent on Friday and this Monday. I am not going to give away any confidential information but please don't write things that are not true. Thank you.
Let's hope that those on the hiring committee choose someone from outside who can come in and clean house....we cannot have someone who has been living in the crap deal with it appropriately...new eyes, ideas, and a LOT of patience is what Normandin needs!
The 7th comment is by a fiction writer, and commenter number 8 writes fantasy, imagining, in America, a qualified candidate should be excluded from interviews. This blog should be kept anonymous permanently, if only to protect us all from knowing who these commenters are that are in charge of teaching facts and content.
