Ventriloquism and slight of hand card tricks don’t bode well for the real world...submitted by a member

I find it curious that School Committee member Marlene Pollock would make comments on the radio and in the newspaper regarding her essential “ignorance” of the school department’s budget issues. Comments such as the cutting of 52 positions at New Bedford High School should be considered an opportunity rather than harmful. She also made comments on the radio stating that she was merely a “volunteer” and doesn't really understand the budget.

Really?!!!! Does she really think the populous of New Bedford is going to buy that excuse? What did she think her role would be when she ran for election? This isn’t her first year either. It seems to me that she chooses to be ignorant to some budgetary issues rather than others. She and her hand puppet Jack Livramento seem to be okay with fiduciary responsibility when it comes to FULLY funding the Innovation school at Gomes- their “pet” project. They were soooo concerned with the need for Arts where that school was concerned, but what about the hit these budget cuts will make to the rest of the district? Ventriloquism and slight of hand card tricks don’t bode well for the real world.

Is there a list of diverse applicants that want to teach in NBPS that have been turned away? Pollock keeps harping on having a staff that "looks" like our students. Are we actively denying employment to qualified people of color? Why does she insinuate that "white" teachers somehow handicap diverse students? This is just another example of her insensitivity. She has no faith in our intellect, cultural knowledge, dedication, or love for our learners.

I understand Marlene is a history teacher. Perhaps she could volunteer to teach at Roosevelt where one third of the department is being cut. This is not happening to the same extent at Keith and Normandin. Why does the Roosevelt principal target the same department whenever there are budget issues?

As a parent and advocate I would love to have the opportunity to sit down and chat with her,and her puppet..I think they would get the facts first hand from us and what our children need and deserve! Both of them have no desire to put our children first nor do they care...Marlene I would love to have a round table conversation with you and Mr. Livermento along with some students and you can listen to them and they will tell you exactly what they need and want to better their education..and one thing would be that 2016 cannot come fast enough.

So if we want more math teachers, must they show up with pencils and flash cards and create a friends of geometry pressure group?

Marlene Pollock and her beau are pandering for vote from the people that are the most able to be influenced. This communist and her cohort need a lesson. Unfortunately the rag continues to bash those of us who really try to teach. We cannot control the circumstances unless we get involved and try to facilitate change. Too many of us live outside the district now and power has been lost to fools like those in the cohort. I just hope she drops by my house to stump for someone. They'll need the police to stop my mouth.
