How much did you spend on supplies and materials for your classrooms this past school year?

About $750.

A ridiculous amount of money, but it enhances my instruction. My closet was filled with supplies I purchased including tissues and band-aids. I also purchase my own chart paper twice a year which is $40.00 plus tax.

My colleagues have purchased their own projectors to incorportate technology into their curriculum. Even though my students could have truly benefitted from that as well, I did not have the extra $800.00 to purchase my own.

Did I mention toilet paper?

My accountant every year come tax time is aghast with my receipts for school supplies. She feels horrible allowing only the manadated $250 allotted. I'm at nbhs. I buy pencils, pens, crayons, markers, rulers, glue erasers, chart paper, chalk, construction paper, copy paper, post it notes, file folders, highlighters, tissues, paper towels, cleansing products, overhead bulbs, trasnparency sheets, poster boards. .. all to run my classes with the mandated policies within the high school. Many times my requests for supplies are ignored/denied so I have no choice to get them myself. My Director was of no help either, so curriculum, videos, interactive dvd's are also purchased on my dime. Then forget about getting permission to go to a conference. Always takes forever to get approved -if get approved, forget about reimbursement. My dime. Did I mention that I have no technology in my classroom other than what I am lucky to borrow from others? Computer labs are booked months in advance, so good luck with that. I troll amazon for the outdated bulbs, vhs tapes and floppy discs to use with the technology we do have available- but that is.only if it is working. So I guess to sum it up, I spend over the course of the year, each year approximately $1,000 on supplies for.my classroom..... oh but wait, can't forget that.this year had to get supplies to put my "binder" together. Did I mention toilet paper and paper towels for faculty bathroom?

I'm wondering how much I'll have to spend this year, but I don't know what my assignment is yet. MAYBE HR CAN GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR REAR ENDS.

I spent $600.

I get about $10 per year per student. Probably spend about $1000. Have my own library as well.

Too Much.....seriously about $1000! Big chunk in the beginning, then some every week for paper towels and tissues.

So far 400.00 but I'm not done yet. I usually spend over a thousand. It is getting harder and more expensive every year to do this job. So frustrating!

pens, pencils, notebooks, markers, glue, poster boards, folders, modified materials for differentiated instruction,etc....lets not forget the cart for the traveling teacher and hope the elevator is working.

The $185,000 woman could care less about how much money we spend out of our pockets to support our classrooms. She and the empty suit who calls himself mayor have no respect for teachers.

I have easily spent $1000. - $1500. On my classroom. Software for smart boards, crayons, pencils, glue sticks, writing journals, (words we use to write journals ) pencil boxes , ziplock bags, tissues, soap, wipes for desks and hands, book repair tape, motivational prizes, pizza parties, holiday gifts ( Mother's Day, projects etc.). Folders, stickers, and the newly needed BINDERS for teacher evaluations!!!!!!!
I am afraid this year will cost me even more, having gone by my classroom to see NO SCHOOL PROVIDED SUPPLIES DELIVERED.

$1,426.22 school supplies, kleenex tissue by the ton, trash bags, hand soap, paper towels, technology lamps, printer ink, paper, crayons, scissors, pencils, pencils, and more pencils, pens, specialized grips for my OT kids, and endless monies to help with lunch money that never seemed to arrive from homes, or trips to the store to help my impoverished kids, so that everyone had a winter coat.

As a guidance counselor I usually spend on average about $500-600 per school year for guidance curricula (books, DVDs, posters, etc.), PD, professional journals, office supplies ( such as paper clips, pens, highlighters, post-it notes, desk calendar, tissues, Etc. but my biggest office supply expense is INK! for my new printer that I had to buy when the printer I had (also bought by me!) died this year. I have bought my own desk chair when the one I had broke, my own portable white board, my own cart to move from classroom to classroom to do guidance lessons, and even a huge closet full of supplies for kids when they don't have something they need for school, which can include clothing and backpacks. Now that I think about it, I'm probably spending around $1000 like everyone else!

Let's not forget pencil sharpeners, expo markers, eraser tops for pencils, and bins to organize student portfolios. Then, we need supplies to decorate our bulletin boards. This is on top of all of the things previously mentioned! The list goes on and on. I stopped adding when I hit $450 last year since I can only claim $250. I am probably around $800.

Our materials are so outdated that we buy our own curriculum resources. I can't begin to estimate how much I spend. We don't even have a decent computer lab for teachers, so I use my own ink at home!

At least $700-$1,000 all told. Not including my computer that I brought from home and oh yeah, my $50 a month for wireless Internet that is not available at NBHS. According to AK, that's supposed to change next year--I'll believe it when my laptop (also my own) and I experience it; then maybe I can stop paying Verizon an extra $600 a year.

Would the NBEA be able to send out a memo asking ALL staff to refrain from "plugging the holes" ? If we all made a stand for at least a certain amount of time(say a 3 month moratorium) as an entire group--the data and documentation of the lack of needed resources could be collected and publicized. WBSM, WSAR, ST, etc...

I disagree with the previous post. The NBEA should not send out a memo.

What should be done about the lack of resources? Just keep the financial burden on the teachers? If you oppose action-what would you suggest? The truth needs to be shared.

Easily over a $1500 for a reward box, extra classroom supplies that the budget does not cover.

The parents should be given a list of what their child needs for the year. Pencils, crayons, notebooks, folders ....maybe that way the teachers wouldn't have to keep digging in their own pockets. Oh yeah, I forgot ...this is New Bedford.

I'd say around 2,000.00a year for everything..don't forget Christmas presents and then there are the collections for poor family's and fires and deaths and winter coats ,hats mittens gloves toys don't forget we're Santa also..thanksgiving buying families thanksgiving dinners Easter dinners............it goes on and on and on and I see colleagues who sometimes are struggling as much as some of the families because they are single parents also but they still give because they are expected to or else be talked about.....
