Principals are not standing up for what is right. They are in on it, too. Strangers in suits leaving Durkin's office evoke unimaginable scenarios and fear because she is capable of anything. We are bodies, and easily dispensable, same as you. Her actions, the disrespect, commands, the secrecy and whispers, are just too much. There is no place to hide; to feel safe. She's watching us, and so are her spies. Somehow, everything gets back to her, and she's ready to pounce. Durkin is dangerous, and she has backup. A support system for us is nonexistent. The climate here is worse than hell, and our administrators are without moral compasses. None are exempt. Everyone is looking out for themselves and will use any means of protection. We've seen it before. We are seeing it again.

A view from within PRAB .... Submitted to the blog
The tension at PRAB is thick. We are working under similar conditions, and are always looking over our shoulders. We must keep everything on the down low. We know something shady is going on with the superintendent. We see her visitors although everything happens behind closed doors. Everything we do is censored. It is not fair to see what is happening in our schools and how we must stay silent. Something is about to go down as Durkin is up to no good, again. We are all in jeopardy. Teachers, do not come here to find answers. We are not allowed to support you. And, if you do, you risk losing your job. We can't even help ourselves because we can't trust anyone. All who are not on board will be dismissed. That is what we are being told. We must keep their secrets even if it deemed ethically wrong.

same thing that occurred in Attleboro- Thanks for having the courage to share with us.
Standard Times censorship.
The Alma charter school covered up a war memorial with a portable building.
David Alves called the New Bedford schools a "disgrace" for covering up a war memorial.
The Standard Times is refusing to cover the story, Alma's disgraceful actions and David Alves' false accusation against the public schools.
Is Alves afraid to take on the Alma board?

Alves is running for reelection. Is Unger covering his back?
See School comm agenda:
Request from Councillor David Alves/New Bedford City Council
on behalf of the Lucio Family, the
members of the Portuguese American War Veterans Organization and the World War II Veterans,
to meet with representatives of the School Committee, City Council Special Committee on Memorials and Dedications and the Alma del Mar Charter School to discuss a remedy
to the decision by Alma del Mar to place a portable classroom over a long standing World War II Veterans
Monument

I have read this piece several times over and the more I read it, the more chilling it gets. If truthful, and not some crank, these thoughts cannot just be blown off. They are serious of the highest order.
Every citizen in this country should read this passage. It should be mandatory reading in our schools. It's an unbelievable prompt for discussion.
To understand the passage's impact, read it as an American citizen, not as a mayor, a sc member, an administrator, teacher, or parent. Then read it again, slowly, and then comprehend what the writer is thinking and feeling. Although anonymous, and if truthful, these words together should invoke an uncomfortable mindboogling uneasiness.
Never in my entire life have I ever had these thoughts, let alone put such thoughts down in writing to be vulnerable.
To think a NBPS employee, let alone anyone should feel this way about their life in the US is unbelievable. The words, the phrases..."censored, stay silent, in jeopardy, can't trust, keep their secrets, spies, dangerous, and without moral compass" requires an immediate investigation of the practices of the superintendent and her staff.
What else can be said. This passage is very disturbing.
Reading this has left me sick to my stomach. What has happened to our school district? How long is the school committee going to pretend that everything is right with this woman? They need to open their damn eyes. She is destroying our school system and taking pleasure in it.
I hope someone was smart enough to put at least an 180 day probation period clause in the new superintendent's contract. It only makes sense given the experiences of the past, the salary requirements, and the burden it will place on the city if it's caretaker's selection was "not the right fit." From all that I read, it sure does not feel like the right fit.
Is the superintendent's contract a public document? If so, can it be published so the residents can read it to determine whether the city wrote a contract in the best interest of the taxpayers, especially if things don't work out.
If the contract is not in the best interest the taxpayers, someone needs to do some explaining. I just don't see these problems ending well. Let's just not circle the wagons. Let's do the right thing.
I work at PRAB and I haven't noticed any of this. Although I am pretty busy working so I don't really have time to monitor who goes in and out of the superintendent's door. Speculating about what goes on behind closed doors doesn't help our district move out of level 4, increase our graduation rate, improve our MCAS scores or lower our dropout rate.
The bloggers above do make some interesting points. The words that were used to describe the writer's original post are disturbing, you must agree. You may be right in saying the climate at PRAB is contrary to what was written, and everything is fine. It was only one person feelings. I certainly hope you are right.
