Are you upbeat?

"I have to say I think the mood is upbeat. I think my tone is one of forward thinking, one of optimism, and I absolutely believe that the leader of the school district has to promote more than what we've done and give the supports needed to create the conditions (so) that it can happen." - Dr. Pia Durkin

I was more upbeat and hopeful at my mother's wake. Thanks to the support of the people around me, I knew I could survive and thrive in the future. There is no such light at the end of this tunnel.

You have done more harm than good, Superintendent. You have evaporated our hope. We are not upbeat. As human beings, and especially as your teachers, you have demoralized us in every capacities. We know how and why you were brought on board. We do not respect you, mayor, and certain members of School Committee just as you do not respect us and or district. There have been similar superintendents in the past. And, your past has followed you to NB. Stop trying to fool us and the public. We deserve better and our union president agrees. He has to pick up the pieces and hold us together. He is the one who gives us hope. I hope you don't last 3 years as your ideologies are not only anti-union, but that of a ruthless dictator. We have referred to primary and secondary sources to substantiate these claims, and first-hand experiences.

Is she delusional?

Why was the blog removed from district web site? To hide the truth. Also, less parent/ public involvement equals more mistreatment.

Is it true that a teacher was assaulted at New Bedford High? I heard on WBSM that the teacher was hospitalized. Please confirm or deny this story.

Yes please tell us the truth, was a teacher hurt at New Bedford High ??

Teacher was hurt breaking up a fight, between two girls. He was kicked in the process. Spline problem and cracked rib.

Several teachers have been hurt breaking up fights this year. There are more fights because the students know that staff cuts have left areas with limited or no coverage at various times of the day. The building safety has been compromised, and the progress we have made over the past few years in this area has been all but erased. As far aa morale, it is at an all-time low, and I have been teaching at NBHS for almost 20 years. The superintendent has created an atmosphere of fear, and it id reflected in the fear and minds of every adult in the building. The increased violence has not helped anyone's level of anxiety. Arguably the worst aspect of this is the negative effect it has had on the students. Unhappy teachers who have been told to increase rigor at all times have put higher levels of stress on all students. I'd say that morale is suffering at all levels.

If you call waking up every morning absolutely demoralized even before you've taken a shower because you know beyond any reasonable doubt what is waiting for you "upbeat"...then yeah, I'm as upbeat as they come...

Yes! broken rib, ruptured spleen. Kicked continually by a lovely young lady. If he would have only taken the time to get to know her and reason with her. She wouldn't have resorted to her ways. This happened less than a week from our ass't super meeting in which we were admonished for not understanding our kids.

Why didn't Durkin report the teacher being injured by students at the high school? Probably the same reason she didn't report the student rape on rape at a middle school in Attleboro. Once that story got out she "apologized" to the parents for not reporting it. Google it for the entire story.

I've been more upbeat when I've had the flu with 104* fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and body aches than going to school to be abused by students and administrators every day.

I'm never breaking up a fight after hearing this. Maybe she'll fire him for touching the girls when he intervened. Heard she's fired teachers who have intervened in other situations. Isn't this the superintendent that said she's never met such respectful students as those at NBHS?

Pia has a plan. She can not fire without just cause. How can she get just cause? Well, she has instructed her Principals to give the majority of their employees a NI in one area. This way she builds her case. She can then fire as your eval. has a NI on it and you no longer have an impeccable reputation. She now has just cause.

My principal gives out so many NI's we've lost count. Honestly, if you've been teaching for 30 years-who are these administrators to label you as an ineffective educator? Your objectives don't match? So what? Your questioning techniques are not rigorous? Who says? YOU? The runaway teacher? We know why most of these folks left the classroom. Remember, they left BEFORE this nonsense took over, and they weren't Teacher of thr Year then!

There is much to say about NBHS. We are not receiving any support. The administrators treat us like dirt, the students know discipline policies are not consistent, there is no collaboration among staff, teachers are unhappy and angry, everyone is a target. Groups of teachers whisper quietly in groups. Are they friends or foes? There is no trust. Our safety is not important. Our attention must not be wasted on struggling students. The school is falling apart as a structure and infrastructure. It is a horrible place to work.

She has a great mission and great goals but leads with a sword at the back of the faculty. Her comments are demoralizing, not inspiring. Yes we need change but when tossing the bath water be mindful of the baby.

We need to toss the baby out with the dirty bath water in order to wipe the slate clean. It starts with the mayor and follows a sequential order (top down). This is dirty politics and unsound decision-making. Durkin is a pawn in this game of chess. NBPS has a history of making bad choices that harms their teachers and students. We know we are not valued or respected, and that alone speaks volumes. Neighboring districts frown upon us and see how the money is used to line the pockets of incompetent and useless administrators rather than spend it on resources to improve academic success. Shame on the mayor and his cronies for allowing it to progress to this level.

To the "My Principal" blogger: My housemaster pulled the same crap with my evaluations. This is a direct contradiction to the previous ones she wrote up. Was she incompetent during those write ups? Did I suddenly become a horrible teacher? Is it because she does not like me? Is that what she was told to do? I know this is not a true reflection of my teaching abilities. This is on her. But, if I could evaluate her, she would receive an F in the ethics department.

The only thing that has gone up is my blood pressure and my anxiety!

This is exploitation on an already ravaged district. Now it 's time to turn the tables. Let's reach out to Channel 10's investigative reporter to interview teachers, parents, and students. Encourage them to visit the district of Attleboro for an additional earful. Bounced from one district into the arms of another. How high of a price do we have to pay for somebody else's calculated mistakes?

To the my principal blogger. My principal has done the same thing with the evaluations.she is kissing the administrations butt because she's hoping to join them at PRAB.

How can anyone be upbeat with Durkin's "Reign of Terror"?
