I can't believe that everyone is in an uproar about these boycotts during the holiday season but no seems to be the slightest bit upset by the fact that the superintendent basically fired us the week before Christmas and then wished us Happy Holidays! What makes this less appalling than a boycott?
I have lived in New Bedford all of my life and never really thought about moving away but now, I am realizing the error of my ways. Why live in a city that goes out and gets cruel, heartless people and treats them like gods?
As for the signers of the ad, you may get my respect when you spend a week in my shoes - let's start with you Jon Mitchell! Don't worry! Once you break up your first fight and hear the f word several dozens of times before 9:00, you'll settle in just like the rest of us. Maybe the mayor could get Pia to co teach with him. That might be fun to watch!

Let's look at some of the players:
Craig Dutra-former CEO of United Way. He was named Westport Man of the Year.
His wife, Africano and Dutra were involved in a low speed chase after attending a Jon Mitchell cocktail party. His wife was arrested for driving drunk (after the police had to chase her!!)Dutra was just a drunk passenger. Wasn't Mitchell a federal prosecutor? I guess drunk driving is no longer a crime?
Then you have Michelle Hantman who claims that UW is doing much better without the teacher donations. So are we, Michelle, so are we. Oh, can you tell me Michelle who is Michael Durkin? He is the CEO of United Way. Odd name that isn't heard too often. Oh wait, any relation to Pia Durkin? Were you pressured to sign it by Michael? hmmm.
Mr. Durkin is a teacher at Durfee. Is Durfee performing? Oh wait, is Mr. Durkin going to be hired for a new position at NBHS?
Jon Mitchell. Lives in the Hathaway district yet his child attends Winslow. Why is that?
The S-T, ratings have dropped 67%, and they are judging our performance. Pretty soon the S-T will be closing shop. Better to look after your own success S-T than to focus on the success of others. Looks like the S-T is in a downward spiral. Unger would sell his own mother at this point.
Scott Reiniche is a spin master for a radio station. A deejay. Yep. Well we know that station has lost the morning show after the JR and Sharon show ended. That was tragic. JR saw the writing on the wall and is off to Arizona. Scott, becoming very defensive of Phil, is jockeying for a new position. Kiss Phil's butt and get a name out for yourself.
Pia Durkin. Need I say more? Just google her and get her success rate.
The general public may not be connecting all the dots but be assured there are some of us who will find your connection and expose it!
Can our jobs be saved? Can anything be done? Can the City Councilors intervene and stop this insanity?
Unfortunately all the talk will not get anything done. Strong action like a "call out" day is a good start. Let's see how they run the schools with none of us useless teachers for a day. The police have done it in the past and it got the attention of the powers that be. Not saying this will solve the problems, but we have to start taking action as opposed to just talking. Still believe we can save our jobs and our city if we start making things happen.
Shouldn't Mitchell also be held accountable for allowing attendees to drink and drive? What if someone was killed that night due to the negligence of a drunk driver?
If someone were killed after leaving the Jon Mitchell fundraiser, he would probably sue the establishment that held the party for him. He would claim no responsibility or he would try to cover it up like they did in the Africano/Dutra case. Man of the Year. Yes, Man of the Year. They should have showed him sitting in the car with his wife followed by police cruisers. Let the truth be told.
Well put. Durkin is heartless and ruthless. She with the graces of the Mayor and School Committee are out to destroy the entire system. I think there is more going on way behind the scenes than we know.
