St. John also refuted the claims of Mayor Mitchell that he refuses to meet with Dr. Pia Durkin.

I, for one, wish we had had the opportunity to "boo" Jon Mitchell. He really had no interest in standing in front of a rally in support of teachers. He does not support teachers - he supports Pia Durkin. I am sure he was breathing a very big sigh of relief when he was not allowed to speak. Just who does he think he is kidding?
Lou, you did the correct thing by not letting Mayor Mitchell speak at the rally. We already know his answer about firing half or more of the teaching staff at the high school as he is in favor of Pia's plan. He would have received an unfavorable reception from the crowd.
He will have his chance to re-address us at the next School Committee meeting when he can place the plan back on the agenda.
He most certainly did Mayor Mitchell a grand favor! It may have gotten ugly for the Mayor had he "crashed" the rally. It is quite possible that hecklers may have come forth to the detriment to peacefully assembled teachers union members and related union members. From what I understand ... Mayor Mitchell did not ask Lou to participate prior to the rally but during the rally. As usual this was improperly reported in the S-T ...
Jon Mitchell and his rubber stamp school committee gave us Pia Durkin, a money pit innovation school, denied our grievances, took away elementary planning time that was negotiated and appointed Durkin as the level 3 hearing officer. And he says he supports teachers?
I wis that I could have heard Mitchell's cries to phil "out of touch" Paleologos on Friday about the rally. I could have used a good laugh. I wonder if the phonies gave each other radio hugs.
Lou, you did the right thing. Thank you. We are smart enough to see through this type of nonsense. I will be leaving for another school system but will always support my fellow teachers in New Bedford. It has been an honor.

Jon Mitchell has once again proven that he inept.
