I do not consider myself to be a conspiracy theorist .... Submitted to NBEA

I do not consider myself to be a conspiracy theorist but there is something going on within the political confines of N.B. that is beyond explanation. Never in all my 50+ yrs. have I witnessed such silence amongst our political leaders be it local or our state delegation on such a hotbed issue that negatively impacts the image of N.B. beyond its city limits as the issues taking place in NBPS.

I truly believe that the NBPS district is already in state receivership through the guise of superintendent Durkin. I also believe that the Mayor and all of the other elected officials had been told by the DESE (Mitchell Chester) prior to bringing in Durkin that either you accept Durkin and give her full reign or we will put your school district in state receivership. Politicians believing this would be a black eye for the city chose the Durkin option.
How is this working out for you now?
Someone PLEASE prove my theory wrong.

PS. I would like to thank Bryan Gomes for his support and in being the only elected official to my knowledge to this date to address the RECENT violence that has taken place in NBHS.

Unfortunately, had something been done with more fortitude to address the violence taking place in ALL NBPS schools when the last video warnings came to light, maybe this most recent hideous act could have been avoided. You can thank the Standard Times and WBSM for putting the kibosh on that.

BEWARE, before someone gets seriously injured.

This comment was originally submitted a few posts back but it applies especially well here. What's happening in New Bedford does not require a conspiracy, only a realization of common interests.

"The Elephant is admittedly a sarcastic nonconformist who can't resist an opportunity to inject unpleasant realities into any conversation.

In response to the claim that the "The Superintendent, Mayor and School Committee MUST do something drastic to change this type of behavior"...

um...well...

No they don't.

Understand something important. All human interests are functions of self interest. Our capitalist economy is founded on the principle of self interest. Our electoral system of government is also founded upon self interest. Pretty much everything that living things do is a function of self interest. And what the above mentioned knuckleheads are doing is also guided by self interest.

The Superintendent, Mayor, and School Committee will never get beaten up by a chair throwing sociopath or shot by someone who spent their adolescence being beaten up by bullies. All they care about is making their numbers and allowing the world to see what really goes on in the New Bedford school system interferes with that objective. They're going to make their numbers and worrying about the lives and safety of teachers and students just isn't in their self interest.

Remember what's really important folks. They and their pensions are quite safe while you live in fear of attack and can't even depend on having a job next September."

Your not the first to theorize this but you've articulated it better than anyone else. This has to be the case. Its the only scenario that makes any sense.

There are other videos circulating that show violent acts, and one in particular took place in the core at the high school. Mobs of students were surrounding teachers as they tried to break up a fight. Teachers were being shoved and punched. It was very scary and you could hear teachers trying to call for help. Where was the administration to back them up and keep them safe?

Chester is in favor of Durkin's methods including the lies and cover ups? Does he support the assaults that put teachers in harm's way? Eradicate teachers for the mistake of poorly equipped administrators who allowed this district to decline? This is beyond comprehension.

If this conspiracy is true and Mayor McCheese chose this option, it would make sense. Upon analysis, we know that Pia wears the pants and that is just how he likes it. If the state took over, Mitchell and SC would be blown out of the water for all their corruption. It is easier to answer to one person than several. They played it safe at others' expense. The heat is off the cowards.

Central Falls is a much larger district, but they chose to work with their teachers in the end. What is Mitchell hiding?

As long as Pia is allowed to be the only voice of NBPS the children of this city will be the victims! Teachers are physically ill. In all the years of the school systems unspoken 'Godfather regime ?' At least their was education happening. Now, now this system runs from test to test, score to score, and teachers are in fear, will they have a job or won't they, can they be honest about classroom situations or not?

I keep reading comments here that say something like 'the Mayor is doing Pia Durkin's bidding' or 'why doesn't he get rid of her? Can't he see what she's doing?' As Chairman of the School Committee he hired her. Not the other way around. Why isn't the assumption that she's doing his bidding? Are people just so blinded by the idea that they have an evil boss that they don't realize who it is that can actually boss her? He's in charge. Or do you really think she's doing things he doesn't want her to do? It seems like some people need him to be innocent in all this as if he's being duped. I'm guessing the people who need to believe that voted for him and can't reconcile in their minds that he might actually be the Big Bad.

I agree that Mitchell is the boss and just as guilty of corruption. He chooses to be submissive to deflect blame and responsibility. Maybe it's his ego and teachers are the sacrificial lambs. If this is accurate, he has a distorted view of himself. I always thought he had shifty eyes which is an indicator of untrustworthiness. His day will come.

PARENTS and TEACHERS need to DEMAND how it is remotely possible Durkin was unaware anything was happening at the high school that day, until the video went viral. What else was going on that day? Who was involved? Too much COVER-UP...WE NEED ANSWERS! Expose her for all that she is doing to our school system and the city for that matter. Pitting people against each other. The time to ACT is NOW. We cannot let this continue!

The Union needs to act and NOW!!! This has gotten ridiculously out out of hand. We need picketing and outrage. We are letting these lunatics win and we all know who suffers: the students and the teachers...come on now, let's do something!!!!!

What ever happened to a vote of no confidence? Have our so-called negotiations with Durkin finally ended?
