As a parent I'm disgusted by what this school committee is doing to our schools but I'm most disgusted by Josh Amaral.

Josh knocked on my door and ask me to support him. He told me that he was running to support our schools. Now I realize that he ran to support himself. He used me and others like me to get elected and now he's turned his back on my daughter and every other parents' children.

Josh you will not deceive me again.

Funny, Josh Amaral was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Share Your Thoughts strand. Followed by Mr. Oliveira. I can't believe his wife is a teacher in this system, and he is useless as well. All need to be removed as soon as their election year arrives. Unforgivable.

Bruce Oliveira is another turncoat. He calls himself a union man but he sucks up to Durkin. Why Bruce? Is it because you are only there to protect your wife? Shouldn't you be protecting the other teachers?

I wonder how much it cost to buy Josh.

I think josh actually got booed at thr UMD commencement

I can't claim to know Josh very well, and he does not know me, but I think the Josh Amaral bashing is a bit unwarranted. He has only been serving a short time with NO prior experience. His term in office started during his final and likely most stressful and demanding semester in college. He also has to overcome not being taken seriously by the rest of the SC because of his age. We knew all this. This young man cannot be the panacea for fighting all the ills of education leadership in our district, nor could someone older and more experienced. I am a parent who is behind the educators, but I feel that these comments do more to negatively impact your credibility and bolster the garbage that the ST is spewing about the NBEA being a group of malcontents. The way that this district has treated our educators is horrendous, and your outrage is absolutely warranted, but I think we have yet to see whether Josh is deserving of such reproach.

^ josh used teachers to get elected and betrayed them almost immediately. He could have set himself apart from pollack and Livramento but he embraced them instead.

Anonymous said...

I won't make excuses for josh. He ran as an adult and he needs to be treated as an adult. This is one teacher that won't be contributing to him again.

The School Committee is a joke. They should be hanged for lewd and obscene behavior. I, for one, want no association with them what-so-ever! They are a disgrace.

Anonymous said...

The SC serves no valid purpose.

I wish Pia Durkin would fall off the face of the earth.

There is no democracy in NBPS

Anonymous said...

If we all contribute $1.00, could we buy Durkin out of her contract? She is only in it for the money with no regard for humanity and civility.

Anonymous said...

Pia's jowels are ready to snatch a bite out of teachers

Anonymous said...

What will 2morrow's ST headline read? Commissioner of Ed awards NBPS x amount of dollars and Durkin gives herself a raise and hires more top-heavy admin?

Anonymous said...

An imbalance of power and inequity has been a common theme under the rein of Mitchell, SC, and dictator durkin. We must reaffirm our commitment to NBPS as an essential democratic institution—of the people, by the people, and for the people. This is our Constitutional right and we are being violated on all fronts.

The damage that this school committee has done SINCE his election will take years to come out from under. He promised to listen and learn from all sides. He has fallen under the spell of a reformer and has no interest in learning why she is wrong. He could have attempted to sway other members with his research and questioning skills. Instead, he has determined that the state holds all the cards and will not bother taking strong positions as other school board members around the state have done.

Pia and Mitchell Narcissus are in love with their own reflections whereupon others see this as pure arrogance. May they be avenged and brought down by a reciprocal curse!

Teamwork makes the dream work, but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad team.

Anonymous said...

A leader is best when people barely know he or she exists.

Poor administrators can have a negative impact on teachers and damage the district's bottom line. Bad educational leadership affects the ability to retain highly-qualified teachers and lowers morale, motivation and productivity. Everyone loses in the end.

A toxic leader is a person who has responsibility over a group of people or an organization, and who abuses the leader–follower relationship by leaving the group or organization in a worse-off condition than when s/he first found them. Other aliases for Pia Durkin include little Hitler, Superintendent from hell, The Toxic Boss and boss from hell. Their leadership style is both self-destructive and ultimately harmful as they subvert and destroy organizational structures.

Pia Durkin, Toxic Superintendent

A noted rule of thumb suggests that toxic leaders leave their followers and others who come within their sphere of influence worse off than they found them either on a personal and/or professional basis.

Aggressive narcissists tend use both micromanagement, over management and management by fear to keep a grip of their authority in the organizational group.

Toxic leaders work to promote themselves and their top-heavy cronies at the expense of their subordinates.

A toxic leader can be both hypocritical and hypercritical of others, seeking the illusion of moral virtue to hide their own vices...Attleboro...

The only leaverge the the teachers have to to go work to rule. Do it before it's too late!

NBHS Parent sounds like she's making excuses for Josh selling out the teachers. He a big boy and he ran for a big boy job. If he couldnt do it he shouldn't have run.

those people on the school committe are clueless windbags.

Anonymous said...

Elephant if you enjoy Dr. Durkin's writing, you would really appreciate listening to some of her verbal diarrhea ...it inspires all the captives with whom she deigns herself to speak ...all hail the jowly orator ... Henceforth to be known as JO Durkin ....

Anonymous said...

Enamored by their own reflection? Ha, their mugs are the poster child for Barney and Clyde.

Anonymous said...

That would be Bonnie and Clyde or Barney and Betty.

Anonymous said...

Well---- let's see how fantastic Dr Durkin is at her job. There's prob going to be another Level 4 and if there isn't then you know another deal was struck to prevent it . Hathaway is sinking .

Anonymous said...

how could Hathaway possibly go to level 4. they have one of the most supportive principals out there. she is not condescending, she is just smarter than everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Level 4 is based on MCAS scores, not competent principals.

Anonymous said...

MCAS is a bias assessment.

Anonymous said...

Durkin can alter data to reflect failure or success.

Anonymous said...

I think they meant Hathaway is sinking because some brainiac decided to put a slew of ESL, SEI, or ELL's(pick your favorite label) there without decent services and staff to support them.

We teachers teach the children who come to us. We do the best that we can with the students on our rosters. Just as the police do what they can to fight crime in their towns, we fight ignorance in ours. When police officers are held accountable for the crime rates in their neighborhoods, when politicians are held accountable
for voter participation in theirs, when parents are held responsible for how highly their children value learning, then and only then it will be fair to hold teachers accountable for the test scores of their students.

Anonymous said...

Durkin is not going anywhere
Everyone needs to stand on their own terms
Has anyone really looked at nbhs ELA mcas data? It has been going up ever since kulack had been there.
She is such a joke she doesn't even follow her own "formula"

Anonymous said...

We re all missing who has the power in this whole scenario-- the people we need most . Parents . When they wake up to the services their kids sent getting, the way their teachers are being treated , and where all the money is really going --- then change will happen .

Anonymous said...

Ya, Right! When NB parents get involved, more like when HELL freezes over!

Anonymous said...

It wasn't Kulak who was responsible for any NBHS improvements. It was the hard-working teachers who did the work, but that was not acknowledged. Rather, we were betrayed and kicked to the curb. Give credit where it is due. These phenomenal teachers are gone!

Anonymous said...

Actually kulack and the teachers are gone
They are in the same boat

Anonymous said...

This is true that s why we are stuck with her --- but if they decide to --- she ll and this school committee will be gone

Only in Pia's New Bedford:

All the suspects in the Roosevelt bomb threat investigation are still in class. Education was disrupted for almost two hours. I hear the brooms trying to sweep this under the rug.

Anonymous said...

^ I can assure you literacy and ELA are not his fortes.

Anonymous said...

Did the bomb threat create a diversion for more sexcapades?
